Jessie Gillmansen is still having problems dealing with her life after her mother's death. Then some mysterious dark things show up in her hometown of Junction. Rumors fly around which only grow stronger with the arrival of a new hot guy at Junction High. Pietr Rusakova good looks and hot accent mask a dangerous secret that can cause major trouble to Junction. Jessie fights her growing attraction to Pietr. But will this be enough?
This is one fast paced novel that kept me reading long into the night. The beginning was very hooky. I couldn't put the book down!
Jessie's issues with her mother's death are realistic. Her guilt and anger ran true. I didn't really get her relationship with Sarah, the former nasty girl of Junction High. I figured she wanted to look for the good after the accident that claimed her mother's life.
Pietr and his family kind of reminded me of the Cullens in TWILIGHT. Both have dangerous secrets they hide from others in the town. And Pietr, like Edward, fights against his own attraction and pull toward Jessie.
The end revelation was a tad bit predictable. I'm curious though what will happen later.
For fans of werewolf stories and any paranormal, this is a fun beach read.

I think 13 to Life was a lot better than Twillight, (I never been a big fan) because it had a lot more mystery, magic, and mayhem instead of "Hey I'm a vampire", and then full on romance. But I agree with you that they are similar as both Edward and Pietr have dangerous secrets hiding inside. They both have an attraction to the main female characters but at first it seemed to me that Pietr was more open with his affection.

I gave this book the same rating you did. I couldn't stop reading it! I literally fell in love with Pietr!
