This story is narrated by a special boy known by the number 47 who tells about his life as a slave in Georgia in 1832 and the events that follow his meeting a strange alien called Tall John. 47 learns about the evils of slavery and begins a struggle for freedom to fulfill his destiny to save the world.
47 is a surprising and thoughtful novel that makes an strong impression on the reader. It reminds me of the childrens book The Little Prince and the movie Lilo & Stitch. Part historical, part science fiction, it touches on many different themes. It would be a perfect book to use in an English class, as both teachers and students will enjoy the story and find interesting and important things to discuss. If youre looking for something a little bit different, 47 is for you.
