A beautifully illustrated hardcover gift edition of William Goldman’s beloved story of Buttercup, Westley, and their fellow adventurers
A tale of true love and high adventure, pirates, princesses, giants, miracles, fencing, and a frightening assortment of wild beasts—The Princess Bride is a modern storytelling classic.
As Florin and Guilder teeter on the verge of war, the reluctant Princess Buttercup is devastated by the loss of her true love, kidnapped by a mercenary and his henchman, rescued by a pirate, forced to marry Prince Humperdinck, and rescued once again by the very crew who absconded with her in the first place. In the course of this dazzling adventure, she'll meet Vizzini—the criminal philosopher who'll do anything for a bag of gold; Fezzik—the gentle giant; Inigo—the Spaniard whose steel thirsts for revenge; and Count Rugen—the evil mastermind behind it all. Foiling all their plans and jumping into their stories is Westley, Princess Buttercup’s one true love and a very good friend of a very dangerous pirate.

It was not as good as the movie.

That said, it wasn't terrible either, I enjoyed it quite a bit actually. It was funny and I enjoyed most of the author's little interruptions(and "Morgenstern's" as well) and immensely enjoyed reading my favorite movie parts(Battle of Wits, Inigo and the Man In Black's Duel, etc.) as well as getting more about Inigo and Fezzik's back-stories and the roles they played in the story.

What I didn't like. Buttercup. Was she annoying or what! Stupid and bleh, I hated her. Now granted her movie counterpart wasn't too remarkable either, but at least she didn't stick out like an annoying sore thumb! One of my favorite scenes didn't exist! The rhyming part on the boat! Yes, yes, I know that the rhyming was included, but it wasn't the same without the exact movie quotes. Complete disappointment! A couple smaller things I didn't like, it wasn't "shrieking eels" it was "sharks" :/ and the marriage("mawage") and the Impressive Clergyman part was smaller(even smaller than it already is!) and the "five greatest kiss" part was in the beginning, which didn't make it seem all that great.

So that's about it. Not as good as the movie, but still enjoyable.

The Princess Bride was a very interesting novel. There was a change in plot almost in each chapter, and I always could understand what was going on. However, I didn't like the lack of details. The author seemed to skim over important events, instead of including details to let me imagine and visualize what was happening. It's a great fairy-tale, with humorous characters.

When Buttercup learns that her True Love, Westley, was kidnapped by the Dread Pirate Roberts, she vows she will never love again. She ends up engaged to the wicked Prince Humperdinck, though she feels no love for him. When Princess Buttercup is kidnapped by a giant, a Spaniard, and their Sicilian boss, a mysterious man in black arrives to rescue her.

This is one of the very, very few times I will say that the movie was better than the book, but it was. The only reason for this is the author's interruptions as he leaves the story to include "background information". However, if you skip the interruptions, this book is marvelous fun. It has it all: humour, adventure, romance, pirates, royalty, danger, Rodents Of Unusual Size. Boys and girls of all ages will love this timeless movie, and the movie is a must-see as well.

The Princess Bride is much like it's movie counterpart, which is understandable since William Goldman wrote the book and the script! If you have seen the movie and loved it, you will love the book as well. A more in depth story about Buttercup and The Man in Black's adventures. The novel is exciting and fun to read. The reader roots for Buttercup and her eventual return to her beloved Westley. "As You Wish" will become the phrase every girl wishes to hear. This is definitely a book not to be missed. And when you're done reading, watch the movie!

Once upon the time in the land of Florin, there lived a girl named Buttercup. She was the prettiest girl in the town and all the boys always followed her around. Not that Buttercup cared. Buttercup had Horse and that was enough for her. Until, she realized that she was in love with Farm boy. When he goes off to make a fortune in the hopes of starting a new life with Buttercup The Prince of Florin begins to court Buttercup... Soon a tale of adventure and courage begins involving pirates, true love and evil men.

Yes, okay that summary hardly does the book justice. Because that is only the beginning. Soon to follow is a battle of love...and hate and a great deal of sword fighting, kidnapping and death.

I adored this novel. The author employed many literary devices that made the book absolutely HILARIOUS! I expect this book to be in print for years and years to come.

Princess Bride is the journey of young lovers, Buttercup and Westley, through rescues, sword fighting, giants, and hunting-loving kings.

It is an extremely amusing book with balanced parts of plot and commentary. I loved the witty remarks of the author William Goldman. There were plenty of interesting characters who bring the story more to life.

I cannot find words to describe why I like this book so much because it is unlike any book I have before.

However, I will can find the words to tell you to go read this book because it will make you laugh if nothing else.

'The Princess Bride' is exactly what it claims. A classic tale of love and high adventure. It's about a beautiful girl named Buttercup on her path to love and pricess-ship. I recomend this for any and everyone. It's not as girly as it sounds boys. Actually, the man who revised it did so not to make money but because he truely loved the story and has meaning to him. It is a wonderful story that seems to have a powerful meaning to anyone who reads it.

Once again another book that is better the the movie! I liked this book because it was a great fantasy book and I love books that are fantasy and romance and action and drama all at once. This book is great for anyone who loves fantasy and romance books. For those of you who have seen the movie the beging of this book is a little different and the ending is longer too.

If you've seen the movie and loved it, you've got to read the book! It is just as good or better than the movie is. It's so funny!! Goldman also wrote the screenplay, so there are lots of pieces that come straight out of the book.

The best part is how you get to learn more about Inigo and Fezzik. Their lives were really interesting and you see why they do what they do more than in the movie. I highly recommend this book!
