We have all heard the story of Cinderella, the beautiful child cast out to slave among the ashes. But what of her stepsisters, the homely pair exiled into ignominy by the fame of their lovely sibling? What fate befell those untouched by beauty ... and what curses accompanied Cinderella's looks? Set against the backdrop of seventeenth-century Holland, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister tells the story of Iris, an unlikely heroine who finds herself swept from the lowly streets of Haarlem to a strange world of wealth, artifice, and ambition. Iris's path quickly becomes intertwined with that of Clara, the mysterious and unnaturally beautiful girl destined to become her sister. While Clara retreats to the cinders of the family hearth, Iris seeks out the shadowy secrets of her new household -- and the treacherous truth of her former life.

I thought this book was well- written and extremely well thought out. While it was a little dull in some parts, you couldn't help but want to finish and I was constantly impressed with the author's creative, realistic twist on the Cinderella story.

This book seemed to be a bit boring in the begining because it didnt relate to the fairy tale Cinderella in the first half of the book. However, As i began to read on, I started to find all of the connections between Cinderella and the Stepsisters. I became more interested in this book then i thought i would ever be.

The Cinderella story has never been told so down-to-earth. In a realistic world, where people have real problems, real pain, real fears. What might have been the grim truth behind the Grimm tale. All may not be one happy fairy tale.

A version of the Cinderella story from the point of view of one of the ugly stepsisters, in this case young Iris, who blossoms into an interesting person in her own right, even as the beautiful Clara wins the hand of the prince.

This book seemed good by the back cover but it was awful I would try to read it but fall asleep that's how bad it was!!! I will never ever read this book again!

This book is a very terrible book. It was boring and felt like it was never ending. It seemed as if there were no real point to it. The book was about the life of one of the ugly stepsisters from Cinderella. From that I thought that this would be very good and interesting, but I was very very wrong.
