Emilie du Chatelet was a brilliant scientist in a time when women were lucky to be able to read. Voltaire was a poet who was famous for the way his verses subtly poked fun at the rigid French government. When they met at a dinner party one evening, they fell in love.
I was fascinated by the Enlightenment when I studied it in history, and so I found this to be a wonderful book. In fact, I fell in love with it as soon as I took it down from the library shelf. The characters are vivid and interesting, doubly so because they were all real people.
This book, though non- fiction, reads like fiction.
