Alonzo Mourning's life was great. He was one of the top players in the NBA at the time, he was coming off of an MVP performance in the Olympics, and his team the Miami Heat were going to be one of the top contenders for the NBA championship. With all of this going on he thought nothing could bring him down until he got the phone call from the medical center. Alonzo Mourning always believed at taking things head on and this was going to be the biggest challenge that he would ever face.

Alonzo Mourning had it all. He was one of the most dominant players in the NBA at the time, he just was part of a team who took gold in the Olympics and his team, the Miami Heat, were projected to be one of the top teams the upcoming NBA season. This all changed with one phone call from the doctors office. Alonzo was diagnosed with a rare kidney disorder in which he needed a replacement. The doctors told him he would probably not return to basketball. Alonzo Mourning shows his resilience as he fought his way back into the NBA to win a ring. This is an inspiring story not just for athletes, but for all human beings.
