Tom Stone stepped into Seward High and into Maria McBride's life like a bolt of lightning. He's the perfect guy for Maria--nice, smart, and well-built. There's just one problem: his family. Tom's father is the town's new funeral director, and business is booming. The bodies are piling up thick and fast in Persephone Falls, Alaska, so Dr. Stone keeps Tom up late at night working in the funeral home. And it's clear that Dr. Stone and his creepy assistant, Graves, don't want Maria around. Maria knows Tom was made for her. She's determined to find out what Dr. Stone has against her. When Tom refuses to stand up to his father, Maria begins to stitch together the clues...and finds out that the Stones are into recycling in ways she never could have imagined.

Paul D. Storrie's entry to the "My Boyfriend Is A Monster" series is confusing and not nearly as charming as the first book.

Centered around Maria McBride, a shy orphan violinist, and the burly new student Tom B. Stone (yep), this strange take on Frankenstein lacks the quirky romance and characterization of the first book. Neither Maria nor Tom is a likable character, so when they fall for each other for no reason, the reader is not intrigued to learn more.

While any book in a series about monster boyfriends is expected to be campy, there are too many plot holes in Made for Each Other. I might use it as an example of "telling not showing" in writing; Storrie deliberately points out the humor in character names like Hedy Stone, rendering them unfunny and flat.

Skip this and check out the first book in the series instead.

Tom Stone, the new guy at Seward High is cute and mysterious. Maria McBride is interested in finding out more.

Seems a string of people have happened to died since he moved into town. Maria senses Tom likes her but one big thing stands in their way: his family. Tom's dad assistant, Graves, makes it clear he's not too thrilled with Tom wanting to be around Maria.

Maria doesn't let this stand in her way to find out more about Tom. Only later does she find out that Tom's family is into recycling in ways she'd never imagined.

I really enjoyed this story of a relationship that is bound to have some serious issues. Maria is curious about Tom, the new boy in town. Tom is cute and very well-built. He also seems to be under Maria's spell. Well, her music spell that is. I liked finding out who Tom really is. I won't spoil it but let's just say he doesn't fit the monster boyfriend stereotype.
I was expecting this revelation to end in a really bad way for Maria. It does for some others in town though. Maria seems to not be repulsed about Tom's revelation which I admit I found a little hard to believe. But her acceptance helps both of them when they have to face the main evil in town.

My Boyfriend is a Monster 2 is part of a fun new series of graphic books that brings a whole new meaning to having a monster boyfriend.
