Hailed as “impossible to put down,” the Hex Hall series has both critics and teens cheering. With a winning combination of romance, action, magic and humor, this third volume will leave readers enchanted. Just as Sophie Mercer has come to accept her extraordinary magical powers as a demon, the Prodigium Council strips them away. Now Sophie is defenseless, alone, and at the mercy of her sworn enemies—the Brannicks, a family of warrior women who hunt down the Prodigium.  Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident. Sophie’s bound for one hell of a ride—can she get her powers back before it’s too late?

If you have been a fan of the HEX HALL series, you will most definitely want to read this final chapter. (If you haven't read HEX HALL--go forth and read it) Rachel Hawkins has created a magical world that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

One thing that I loved about SPELL BOUND is that all the pieces of the puzzle finally fit together. We learn a lot about Sophie's family and there are some other great twists as well. I laughed throughout the book and I also got a little teary..WHY?!?! I don't want to put any spoilers in this review, because if you are a fan of the series, I want you to find everything out on your own.

Overall, I thought the series wrapped up well. I'm sad to see it end but I'm sure Rachel Hawkins will have more fantastic stories for us to read soon.

Good Points
This book will make you laugh..a lot.
A great conclusion

Oh Rachel Hawkins how you mess with my heart! When I finished DEMONGLASS I'm pretty sure I cursed Mrs. Hawkins and her terrible cliffhanger (shakes fist still!), however she picks right back up at the beginning of SPELL BOUND (fine, you're forgiven Rachel!). I could not wait to get back into Sophie's world (and um...read more on Archer and Cal).

I loved the plot twists and how Sophie finds out more about her family. Add Sophie's quirky humor and wit on top of that and I was laughing and gasping the whole way through. And that heartbreak I mentioned? Well, I won't spoil it for you, but you've been warned. :)

I feel satisfied with how the story ends and applaud Mrs. Hawkins on a job well done. Though I can honestly say I will miss Sophie and all her friends, but alas, I am content.

Oh, this book. THIS BOOK. Demonglass left us with such a cliffhanger! And left me unsure if I was Team Archer or Team Cal, because let's face it. They are both amazing in their own ways.

But Spell Bound more than lived up to the promise of Demonglass. Plot twists right from the start! Humor that literally had me laughing out loud when I wasn't busy gasping or yelling at Sophie to GET OUT OF HARM'S WAY ALREADY. And the ending? I cried. Real tears.

This is a series with humor and heart, and this book is a strong ending to the series. I highly recommend.

After the cliffhanger ending in DEMONGLASS, I was worried SPELL BOUND wouldn't live up to my expectations. I shouldn't have worried. SPELL BOUND is a great conclusion to the very successful Hex Hall series.

First off, I love Sophie. I love her voice which has just the right amount of snark without being over the top. The revelation of who she really is will be finally addressed. Let's just say she's not really sure what to think of it. Seems she has not only demon blood but witch blood too. And that witch blood is from the Brannick's side, who just happen to be sworn enemies of the Prodigium. Seems her parents lived their own Romeo and Juliet story.

Archer, her boyfriend and supposed enemy, has some great dialogue plus the chemistry between the two of them feels real. Cal on the other hand, her fiance, feels more like a big brother type. I admit, I really feel for poor Cal in a few of the scenes. Elodie is back too. She brings mean girl to a whole new level. Ghost Elodie is able to take over Sophie's body, which can be totally terrible to her love life.

The plot has some great revelations. Seems Sophie has more surprises awaiting her after the Prodigium Council strips her of her powers. There's a little of something for everyone: romance, suspense, a huge final climax that has a surprising ending, and of course, Sophie arcing as a character.

A very satisfying conclusion to a engaging paranormal series. This whole series is as addictive as chocolate. You want to read more! I heard rumors that some readers are curious if there might be a spin-off series with one of the new characters. A Brannick twist would be very fun!
Good Points
1. Great voice
2. Does a great job of ending this trilogy
3. Love Sophie! She has just enough snark to be hilarious without being over the top
4. This whole series is as addictive as chocolate--You want more!

I'm going to do everything in my power to keep myself reigned in and keep this review short. That is hard for me to do with Ms. Hawkins's books. For me, I thought this was a great conclusion for the Hex Hall books. I have to limit what I say so I don't give things away.

The book picks up around where Demonglass left off. Sophie had left to go find her mother. Cal had told her that her mother was with the Brannick's *a group of monster hunters* so that's where the story picks up. She finds that she doesn't know where her father, Cal, Archer, or Jenna are. It was a bit of a pickle. Plus, she is a demon looking for her mother with a group that tends to hunt demons. It had all the makings for a horrible situation. Waiting for Sophie though is a very interesting discovery. It definitely threw me for a loop.

The characters, as always, are incredible. Sophie's sarcasm and snark are irresistible for me as a reader. I just want more and more. I thought this was one of the funniest of the books. It also was action-packed, full of twists and turns, and kept me on my toes. The love triangle between Cal and Archer was really hard for me because I really loved both of them. Sophie does make her choice though.

There was something really sad that happens in the end though. Really sad. The last few pages did help me get closure on the series. All in all, the book is an awesome conclusion to an awesome series.
Low Points: While the book was action-packed, at times it just felt too rushed. There was a particular scene at the end of the book that was this huge action scene and a huge part of the plot. It took up only about five pages. That's just crazy. I also did not like how the love triangle was solved in the ending. I felt incredibly bad for the one not picked.

High Points: The humor, of course. Sophie is such a kick-butt character, and she is loyal and willing to get herself into all kinds of problems. Jenna and her friendship with Sophie is one of the best bff-relationships ever.

Who Should Read It: Readers who still haven't finished the Hex Hall series should jump on that.

The Nutshell: Overall, Spell Bound is a good end to the Hex Hall series. The same humor and wit is there, same as always, and everything gets tied up rather nicely. If you enjoyed the other two books in the series, then you’ll almost surely enjoy this one as well!

Spellbound is the third and final installment in Rachel Hawkins' Hex Hall series, and it definitely establishes love/hate feelings in me. On the love side, the writing is solid, and the snarkiness of the characters creates a fun atmosphere, even in times of danger.

The story picks up where Demonglass left off. We finally learn the fate of Sophie and, eventually, the others after the explosion that rocked Thorn Abbey. One thing that Hawkins does with adept skill is create characters people are invested in. I feel Sophie's pain as she waits for news of her friends and family. In fact, I worried along with her. The characters are richly drawn and entertaining. The addition of the Brannicks and Torin added a new dimension to Sophie's story that deserves to be explored more.

The plot lines were interesting and always kept me guessing. The entire Hex Hall series has a feeling of motion. The pace moves from one situation to the next with little time to take a breath. The story has a few quiet moments that add depth and gravity to the final chapters of the book.

However, there is one negative. Without spoiling anything, one character did not get the ending he deserved, at least in my opinion. As a reader, it is difficult to invest in characters and then feel cheated by their ending. When something major happens to a character, there needs to be some importance for it or reasoning behind it. When that explanation is lacking, it is difficult to accept the character's fate. This was the one thing in the book that didn't work for me.

Overall, Hex Hall is an entertaining series with strong characters and fantastic humor. If you like snarky paranormals with a diverse cast of characters, this series is for you.

Oh, YAY! Finally! Archer or Cal? Cal or Archer? I'm pleased with the outcome. Sad about one part, but it worked for this story. Very well!

Rachel Hawkins has written another book that has lots of humor. The amount of nervousness that Sophie feels, she exudes that much wit in return. It's hilarious! Honestly, who doesn't make bad jokes when they're nervous? I do!

This book had more information for Sophie to find out more of who she is...from her mother's side of the family. We got her dad's history in Demonglass. With the cliffhanger in Demonglass, you kind of figured it out, but it's nice to see you're correct in your assumption!

I'm glad that Hawkins wrote such great friends for Sophie. Imagine taking on evil on your own! When Jenna and Archer joined Sophie and Cal when they were going to the Underworld...I just sobbed. I had to put the book down for a moment! Sheesh! Archer, Jenna, Cal, and even Elodie were great in this book!

Yay for Mrs. Casnoff! Without her, there is no telling what would have happened there at the end.

Overall, I enjoyed and really liked Spell Bound. However, there wasn't as much "SHAZAM!" in this one as the first 2 books. I love the series and will read all 3 again at some point. They all have a happy home on my lovely bookshelf...and my heart.
