After tiring of the needs of overly demanding princesses, Prince Henrik devises a test to find a girl who s not so sensitive, using a very thin mattress and an entire packet of frozen peas. His dream girl shows up unexpectedly in the form of his old friend Pippa, who is all too happy to pitch a tent or play a hard game of hockey, after which she finds the perfect use for that packet of peas! In this twist on the fairy tale, Tony Wilson and Sue DeGenarro deliver a freshly humorous take on one prince s search for the just-right girl of his dreams.

Prince Henrik wants to marry a princess, until he discovers how sensitive they really are. Instead, Prince Henrik realizes he wants to marry someone who loves hockey and camping and isn't so sensitive. So, he decides to test the girls.

Prince Henrik places a frozen pack of peas under the mattress that the girls will sleep in. If the girl complains about it, then she isn't the right one. Prince Henrik uses this trick until he discovers his "princess" and it's someone who he doesn't expect.

THE PRINCESS AND THE PACKET OF FROZEN PEAS is a cute retelling of the Princess and the Pea. I don't see this story being written about much, so it was refreshing to have a new read. I enjoyed reading this to my daughter and know she loved it too.

Final Verdict: This is perfect for fans of fairytales with a little bit of humor. I thought it was funny how Prince Henrik tests the girls with the pack of peas and the girls are like why is this here?

In this charming rendition of the classic "The Princess and the Pea" fairy tale, young Prince Henrik is longing to be married--not to a typical princess, but to someone much more down-to-earth. He decides to weed out the 'sensitive' princess-types when they come to his castle with a different method than a single pea and 27 eider-down mattresses, and much to his luck, it ends up working for him!
My first run-through of this book made me chuckle, but when my husband read it, he gave it a firm thumbs-up. With an outdoorsy Prince who defies what the typical guy wants, he felt it was a good way to help teach our daughters about what a great guy will someday look for in a girl, and how important it is to just be yourself. Personally, I am thankful for something else to add to all the princess mumbo-jumbo that eeks its way into my daughter's consciences. The Princess and the Packet of Frozen Peas is a fabulous addition to my princesses' repertoire. The illustrations are adorable and the pastel colors add a nice look to all of the fun drawings.
