It is a truth universally acknowledged that Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is one of the best-loved novels of all time--and today, it's more popular than ever. When the wealthy and very eligible bachelor Charles Bingley purchases an estate in the Bennets' small town, he and the beautiful Jane immediately fall in love. But Bingley's arrogant friend Darcy just as quickly alienates Lizzy when she overhears him speaking dismissively of her. These first impressions have lasting repercussions for Jane, Elizabeth, and their whole family. Rich in wit and wisdom, humor and humanity, Pride and Prejudice takes a probing, entertaining look at the nature of love, money, and power in Georgian England.

Honestly, for me, it doesn't get any better than Pride and Prejudice. The story line is stellar. The Bennet sisters, Mr. Darcy (Mr. Darcy!), The Bingleys, the dances... Seriously, I love love this book.

The only thing I had a bit of a problem with is the language, and that's probably mostly true for most people. Sometimes it's hard to understand what the characters are talking about since it's 1800's England. However, if you just keep reading it gets easier, and you can figure out what is going on fairly easily.

I adore Mr. Darcy. He is my all time favorite male lead. He may be stubborn and come across as a jerk at first, but oh my goodness, what a romantic, passionate man! Elizabeth is so lucky. I love their story line. The ups, downs, the romance, the glances, everything. I just cannot get enough of this story. Even though the story revolves around Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, there are plenty of sub plots happening as well. And the book does a great job of helping us learn about England and it's social status back in the day. Something that we don't really have today (not in the same way anyway).

If you have not read this book, get it. You have to try it out, you need to read it!

I didn't grow up adoring Mrs. Austen like many others. I found her works in my late teens, and it was then that I fell in love with it.

You can tell that so many other books have taken from Pride and Prejudice. I guess in that way, it will forever live on. Much like Romeo and Juliet.

Was my favorite part the romance? No.

I wouldn't call it romance, more along the lines of pining over someone until they give in. Although, towards the end, Mr. Darcy is quite adorable with his letters and trekking across cities just to see her.

My favorite part was the family Elizabeth was always trying to get away from. And I cant blame her.

Her mom was crazy. Her sisters were love sickened puppets. Her cousin wanted to marry her for goodness sake!

But her father was my favorite. Mr. Bennett told it like it was and I give props to the man!

It took me awhile to get through this one because the language was so tedious. Old English dialect is not something I'm accustomed to. But in the end, it was worth it and I can say that I loved it very much.

Finally finished! I hadn't expected such a short book to take me so long to read! While I enjoyed Pride and Prejudice and appreciated it for what it was, I unfortunately could not like it as much as I assumed I would have. I found many parts dull and the characters somewhat bland. That probably surprised me most, because I expected and in a way found intriguing characters but I felt we were unable to get to know their personalities as much as I would have liked(with a few exceptions). I felt that at times the plot seemed very forced and contrived, but that might have been partly due to the fact that my reading was so broken up during the course of time I read it that it felt choppy. I will definitely read other Austen books, and perhaps I will enjoy another more than Pride and Prejudice.
Good Points
It's a classic for a reason...
