Amelie Bennett. . . . Ending the world, one prophecy at a time.

I was born to slay Crossworld demons.

Big black flappy ones, little green squirmy ones. Unfortunately, the only thing getting slain these days is my social life. With my high school under attack, combat classes intensifying, and Academy instructors dropping right and left, I can barely get my homework done, let alone score a bondmate before prom.

Then he shows up.

Jackson Smith-Hailey. Unspeakably hot, hopelessly unattainable, and dangerous in all the right ways. Sure, he’s my trainer. And okay, maybe he hates me. Doesn’t mean I’ll ignore the wicked Guardian chemistry between us. It’s crazy! Every time I’m with him, my powers explode. Awesome, right?

Wrong.

Now my teachers think I’m the murderous Graymason destined to bring down our whole race of angelbloods. Everyone in New Orleans is hunting me. The people I trusted want me dead. Jack and I have five days to solve the murders, prevent a vampire uprising, and thwart the pesky prophecy foretelling his death by my hand. Shouldn’t be too difficult.

Getting it done without falling in love. . . that might take a miracle.

I'm a huge fan of paranormal romances and PROPHECY GIRL is that and so much more. First off I totally fell in love with the voice. Amelia Bennett is a demon hunter who would eat Buffy the Vampire Slayer for breakfast. Her voice is hilarious with just enough snark and humor to keep you wanting to follow her anywhere. I know she did with me!

The world building is amazing too. I loved the descriptions throughout especially 'splooge' which is what's left over after a demon slaying. There's werewolves, watchers, portals, and of course the whole bonding between a slayer and her Watcher. Here the future of Guardians depends on whether or not they bond with a Watcher by graduation.

Then there is Jackson, her trainer. Once they touch, sparks literally go off. The chemistry between these two is intense and the barbs go flying. Even though others try to keep them apart, it seems they can't stop being around each other. Add to that the prophecy that might be holding Amelia and Jackson apart.

The other characters are equally great like the vamp Luc, Jackson's so-called cousin whose own sass matches hers; Lisa, her BFF; Bud, her father, who might be holding his own secrets, and the school Angel Academy.

The humor and underlying pokes at some popular Pop references are engaging without going over the top to being too campy. Fast-paced action along with mystery also add to the charm of this novel.

Punchy dialogue with one kick ass heroine that takes readers on a whirlwind adventure that you don't want to end.

Good Points
1. Amazing voice with just enough snark/humor to have you smiling
2. Great world building
3. Great chemistry between Amelia and Jack

What I Loved:

I never expected to love a paranormal romance so much, but PROPHECY GIRL hits all the right notes. It's funny, swoony, and absolutely thrilling, and I couldn't bear to stop reading.

What makes the book for me is the heroine. Amelie Bennett is smart, brave, stubborn, and hilarious. She doesn't play by the rules (and has a disciplinary file the size of Texas), and while that gets her in some hot water, it's also one of her strengths. I love that she's loyal to those she loves, and that she refuses to give up even when the odds are so clearly stacked against her. I love that she goes after what she wants, and that she thinks outside the box (Girl is resourceful!). And I especially love her voice. She is funny, snarky, and full of sass, and not in that annoying "please stop trying so hard to be funny" way. Ms. White has a genuine comedic touch, and even in the midst of hair-raising suspense, I was laughing.

I also enjoyed the secondary cast of characters. (Especially Jack, the love interest whose swoon factor on a scale of one to ten is YES PLEASE.) The characters come vividly to life, complete with the little details that make them feel unique and *real* to the reader.

The world building is exceptionally strong. The reader is instantly immersed in the world of Guardians and Watchers, which comes with a history, a culture, glyphs and weapons and spells, and a world at war on a supernatural level. The author wove the details seamlessly into the fabric of the story without resorting to info dumps. I never felt lost, even though the plot is fast-paced and relentless.

Which brings me to my last point: the plot. The pace. The way I could. Not. Stop. Reading. The author gave me enough swoony (or snarky) down time in between breakneck action and edge-of-my-seat suspense that I was fully invested in Amelie, her romance, and her outcome. Every plot twist raises the stakes and hurtles the characters into more danger. And I loved that the end of the book is both satisfying and made me need Book 2 immediately, if not sooner.

What Left Me Wanting More:

Honestly, this was one of those perfect-for-me books. I'm super picky about paranormal romance, but this just hit all the right notes for me.

Final Verdict:

A fast-paced, hilarious thrill ride that will keep readers turning pages long into the night, PROPHECY GIRL is a must read.

I was given an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book that I have read by Cecily White and I am sure that it won't be my last. When I started reading Prophecy Girl the first thought that came to mind was the TV shows Charmed and Supernatural. I was a huge fan of both these shows and I was immediately sucked into this book and the world that the author has created.

This book is action packed from the get go. It gave me whiplash with all the twists and turns, but in a good way of course. Get ready for a wild ride because you won't know what to expect. Once you think you have it figured out everything changes.

I really loved the main character Amelie. She was full of snark and tougher than nails. She also is able to show a slightly vulnerable side at times. Amelie is supposedly this huge threat that everyone is terrified of and as the prophecy also tells she will have to kill the man that she thinks she loves. Awesome twist that left my heart beating out of my chest page after page wondering what was going to happen.

The world that Cecily has created is nothing short of amazing. She is so descriptive of this world and the things that take place that you can't help but imagine yourself right in the middle of it all. The way that the interactions between Amelie and her trainer Jack are described left my heart sighing. Such simple interactions that make you feel like sparks are flying, which they literally are! Most people know that I love a good love story and this one did not disappoint.

Prophecy girl is one of the best books that I have read thus far in 2013. I will absolutely be recommending it to others. If you are ready to escape into a world of angel's and demon's, and are ready for a wild twisting ride, then you should pick this one up today. You will not be disappointed.
