An absolutely gorgeous book for younger readers.

I was lucky enough to read this book with a two-year-old who is waiting excitedly for her new sibling to get here. I don't think I could have read a better book to her. Now, every napttime at her aunt's has to include this story. She's able to see herself in it and that is one of the biggest things that hook the young reader. At that age, they are starting to decry being called little. It's big girl this and big girl that. Little Big Girl perfectly represents their thinking in a way that makes them feel there's a reason for them being big. It shows them that being a big sister is an important job at a time when kid's feel displaced by babies.

The pictures in this book are the most beautiful images I've seen in a children's book in a long time. They aren't your typical computer renderings. Every single one looks hand drawn by someone with an enormous amount of skill. It's almost an old fashioned way of doing it, but it works so perfectly.

There aren't enough good things to say about this book. The best I can tell you is that it's a can't miss for young girls (or boys) who are about to have their life turned upside down in the best possible way. If there is such a thing as perfection in literature, this is it.
