Every book you’ve ever read. Every story you’ve ever heard. What if they were all true?

When high school student Will Morgan goes on a school trip to Boston, he doesn’t expect to witness a murder. But when best-selling novelist Arthur O’Neill is found dead, Will realizes there’s more to this writer’s books than just words.

After O’Neill’s death, Will receives a mysterious package: a copy of The Redstone Keep, one of O’Neill’s famous novels. Upon reading the book, Will passes out and is introduced to a man named Tam Desmond, The Redstone Keep’s protagonist. Tam explains that he is a resident of the World of the Written, a universe parallel to our own where everything ever published by humans comes to life.

Through his conversations with Tam, Will learns that something was targeting Arthur, and that same force is now after him. Armed with his new powers and a magical sword, Will sets out on a journey to solve the mysteries surrounding the murder; however, all the while, Arthur’s death may have just been the start of something much more sinister.

What I loved:
Books that center around adventuring into books are a unique genre and always hit high and deliver an epic adventure tale. Kingdom of Ink and Paper fits this description perfectly. An author dies, and his author abilities, so to speak, are magically transferred to a reader who adores his works. What unfolds is a tale of adventure, a struggle over power, and an experience with friends. What made this one stand out for me is it is not just one book that can be encountered, but the world of the written holds every story that has ever been written; it also has a great explanation and place for those stories that have been forgotten over time.
What Left Me Wanting More:
The world-building starts as minimal but expertly builds as we explore the world and the consequences of choices made. The end goal, it turns out, is the need to save the world from someone who wants to control all the power, but in the end, there is a second threat beyond someone holding power. There is a monster that can be used to destroy the world of the written. Adventures to other stories would be a blast, along with more exploration of the friends' powers.
Final Verdict:
Kingdom of Ink and Paper has a lot of potential for following books in the series, and I would love to see an arc for each of the friends and explore the unique powers they have gotten since entering this world. A solid start to a special series that is sure to fulfill your book-loving exploration needs.
