Stacey Abrams and The Fight To Vote

What worked: Powerful, inspiring book on Political activist Stacey Abrams told through the point of view of other Black women leaders from generations past. These women include Ida B. Wells, Sojourner Truth, Fannie Lou Hamer, and Septima Poinsette Clark. I really loved the insights from these other Black women that paved a path.

Stacey Abrams's story shows a young girl who loved words and wanted to make a difference. Her parents were a huge influence in her life. So many obstacles were in Stacey's way but she continues to refuse to let any of that stand in her way of making sure that all Americans, including those marginalized in places like Georgia, know their rights.

What I especially love about this book is how the author shows not only Abrams's desire to make voting accessible to all, but her persistence, determination, and above all else, courage. She refuses to give up, even when the odds are stacked against her.

The illustrations give a powerful punch to this book too. In the glossary, there is a brief bio on all the women, including Stacey Abrams. There's also a timeline on voter rights. This book is perfect for elementary school classrooms but also can be used in higher grades during discussions on voter and civil rights.

Engaging, compelling glimpse into Stacey Abrams's fight to make sure all can exercise their rights to vote and the Black women that came before her. A must-add to any school library.
