Various usage of shapes in different environments is presented in 17 chapters and the book ends with a double-spread where kids can try out their newly gained knowledge.

“Shapes, Shapes Everywhere” by Lenka Chytilova, illustrated by Gary Boller, explores how shapes are all around us, serving so many different purposes. Starting with a discussion of what shapes are and how they’re important, there are pages about how shapes help communicate messages, how they create order (such as with the changing colors on stoplights), how they can be found all around the house if one takes some time to observe, and how they serve as symbols in charts, graphs, and the like. There are flat shapes, 3D shapes, shapes that help with directions, shapes that help us make sense of the world around us, and even shapes to play with, like round balls, triangular kites, rectangular blocks, etc. Shapes are everywhere, from the home, to being part of hobbies, such as music, sports, art, and even the playground. Shapes help us see the world in new, unique, engaging ways. People just have to be present and engaged in seeing how shapes actually shape the world we live in and how we view it.

Readers should take a few moments after reading this book and check out how many shapes there are in the room in which they’re sitting. How many rectangles, how many squares, how many triangles, cubes, etc.? There is so much to be seen if we only take the time to do so! “Shapes, Shapes Everywhere” opens up so many avenues to seeing how shapes help us relate to the world around us. It is a book for kids and adults alike!

This was a great introductory into basic geometry and how it plays an essential role in our lives.
The content is perfect for second graders to read independently, and for as young as pre-k for a teacher/parent led lesson.

The illustrations are fun and show case the shapes, and how we utilize them, well.
