Kid Review: Backpack Explorer Stickers: Nature Adventure: 300 Stickers plus Play & Learn Activities by Editors of Storey Publishing

The more humans move inside away from nature, the more young children don’t know about the world around them. If you haven’t been allowed to play in a creek, you won’t have seen the variety of critters that frolic in the mud and water. This lengthy sticker books takes a very systematic approach to introducing children to a variety of life forms. There are pages with outlines of bugs, trees, flowers, birds, and amphibians and reptiles. There’s a little bit of information about the category, but the draw to this book is the beautifully designed and realistic stickers in the back. These are all labeled with the name of the plant or animal, and the stickers are arranged in a completely different way than the pages to which they are to be adhered, so there is a little bit of a challenge to the process. After these pages are brightly colored settings for ponds, forests, mountains, and meadows that are ready for the reader to add stickers from the corresponding pages. These are also labeled, but do include some decorative items, like rocks and leaves, to make the tableaus even prettier. I am sorely tempted to start peeling stickers off right now and creating my own trail map or decorating my backpack, but I will try to restrain myself and give this to a child who would love the stickers!
