The third book, Valkyrie’s Legacy, takes place months after the events in book 2. Sigrid is now the only living royal and has been in many battles with the night elves that destroyed Vanahalla. Her rise to authority felt too rushed in book two, so having the book start after almost a year gives her the time needed to feel more authentic in being at that level of authority and skill.
The book is well-suited for younger YA audiences. It contains straightforward resolutions to the quests. I was surprised at some of the deaths of side characters because overall, everyone has felt untouchable. I continue to wish there were more time to slow down the action, make it a little harder to accomplish their tasks, and spend a bit more time on character development so that the reader feels more immersed.
This series continues to be a clean romance with Sigrid and Mariam mostly yearning throughout, a few kisses, and deciding when it is the right time to declare their love. The action moves quickly, and there is a nice happy ever after to wrap up the plot.
