Every friendship faces challenges. Orris and Timble are back in a poignant and evocatively illustrated tale of trust from a two-time Newbery Medalist.

Orris the rat and Timble the owl are unlikely friends. Each night, Timble visits Orris in the barn and listens to his stories. But Timble is growing up, and one evening when the owl doesn’t appear as usual Orris wonders if Timble has forgotten him. Is their friendship over? Or could it be that Timble has a tale of his own to share? Illustrated with wistful tenderness, the second title in a projected trilogy to feature this charmingly offbeat pair masterfully explores the stories we tell ourselves, the stories we tell each other, and the binding magic of friendship.

Orris and Timble: Lost and Found continues to pack a lot of heart into simple text, making it perfect for beginning chapter book readers. The illustration style evokes a feeling of nostalgia for an older generation of illustrated chapter books like Frog and Toad.
Timble is growing up and doesn’t come back to visit for several days. Orris is heartbroken and not quick to forgive once Timble returns. However, through the power of story, Timble can explain the events that led to his absence and his happiness to be back with his friend.
Overall, these two friends have a setback in their relationship and have to process big emotions. The illustrations reinforced the emotions while still giving feelings of calm and wisdom to the reader. This is a gentle beginning chapter book for younger Elementary students.
