From bald eagles and cowboy boots to Yellowstone and Zion National Parks, the United States has a wide array of people, sites, and culture that can be celebrated, especially during this Sestercentennial year! This board book is a good way to introduce young readers to places like the Kennedy Space Center, the Grand Canyon, and Route 66, and people like Martin Luther King and Elvis Presley.

The text is brief, and each letter has just a brief description about the item portrayed, which is very helpful when reading to children who like to turn pages quickly. For more patient readers, there are some details on each page to make looking at the pages more closely fun.

Good Points

This had a rounded style similar to Arrhenius' Where's the King, which is one of my grandson's favorites. The pictures are clear and bright, and the round eyes on the people are very engaging. I appreciated that the text didn't try to force any rhyme schemes.

My only quibble is that the title should have been The ABCs of the United States rather than America, since America could also be used to describe Canada and countries in South America, but since the official title of the 2026 anniversary celebrations was America 250, this is a losing battle.

There are a number of history board books, and it's never to soon to introduce readers to history and culturally signicant people, places, and events, so add this fun board book to Cortez and Shemmer's The ABCs of Women's History, Holub and Roode's This Little President, Burton and Cleland's Red, White, and Blue, I Love You, and Cheney and Glasser's America: A Patriotic Primer for a mini history lesson.
