This is story about a little boy from the ages 4 to 12. From the time he is 5 he's beaten by his mother. She plays 'games' that he has to figure out in time or most likely die. He is forced to sleep on the old army cot in the basement. She starves him for days on end so he is forced to steal food. But the sadest thing of all is that this is a true story. This happens to kids all over the world every day. This is an amazing book that will open your eyes and touch your heart. If you havent read it sugest you do.

This book was amazing. It was very difficult to read as it was very distressing and disturbing in places but funnily enough i couldn't put it down. From page one i was gripped by this tale of the child named 'it' and horrified by it. The whole way through the book the story was told so graphically and well that i felt as though i was there and i often felt the entire gravity of the situations david was in and the turbulence of david and his mother. This book left me feeling glad for what i have and made me realise how trivial some of the things i worry about are compared to the problems that some people have to bear.
This was very worrying in parts but 100% a good read.

The story told in this book is so awful that I was amazed to find that it is a true story. This book is a guesome tale of one child's struggle to basically stay alive in his mother's cruel household. Dave Pelzer tells his story, how his father left when home life got unbearable and how his mother treated him like, well, garbage. He was forced to clean while his brothers got McDonald's. I found this book to be a wonderful read that left me pondering Dave Pelzer's early life.

Wow. This book was really sad. The first time I picked it up, it made me all sad, so I put it down after the first 10 pages. Then I decided to read it again because I was really bored one day. Well it amazed me. How could a mother do all those things to her son? I just wished the people around the kid would've helped sooner. This is a really good and quick read.
