It's time for a family walk, and since Daddy is busy handling the dog, he doesn't have time to appreciate all of the neat pinecones...or just how many his daughter is taking home.
This book captures the ordinary magic of a fall day and discovering neat things outside. There's two stories in one, with the dad wrangling the rambunctious dog, and the girl amassing her pinecone treasure. I enjoyed how, when the father does find out what's going on, he looks for ways to use the pinecones in the home, thus encouraging scavenging and creativity, but also addressing the reality that bringing a heap of pinecones inside is probably going to bring much dirt and bugs too.
The illustrations play a strong role in telling the story, and the small amount of text makes for a quick read. This is a great book for those cozy fall days, or any time of year.
