Sick of zombies and dark urban, paramilitary excursions into global cataclysms of the future? Are you hankering for a yarn set in a rural landscape of beauty and simplicity, reminiscent of the old West? Do you hope that when the world crashes, you'll be riding horses instead of armored tanks? Look no further. You'll get your fantasy/sci-fi fix, too, don't worry. But in this book, the fix is subtle yet spell-binding. There is enough techie stuff to scratch an itch for machines. Without giving away the plot, you will find that, in the story, machines, appliances and technology, however, take a back seat. Which is refreshing! Zack McQueen is a great character and he gets the honor of leading this rapid-paced book full of other wonderful characters and settings and adventures. Other books set in the future could take a lesson from this author. He has a knack with language and description that is satisfyingly rich and, for a story that is often violent and traumatic, comforting through the scary parts.
McLellan's first book, apparently. The story feels like there will and should be a sequel. Hope to see more.
