Artemis Fowl is a contemporary fantasy that blens the mysteries of magic with the adventures of what our own world will never possess. I thought it was an interesting story that ensures the faster turning of pages in the many moments of thrills and mysteries.

Artemis kind of reminds me of an bad Richie Rich. He's not evil, but he is definitly not the good guy, he's more of the super vilain type. When he goes up against the fairies (we're not thinking Tinkerbell) anything and everything can happen.
I like how different these books are. In an area where Harry Potter and Series of Unfortunate Events clones are popping out all over, I find these books a breath of fresh air. If you're looking for a book for a male reluctent reader, these are a good bet.

I abssolutely love this book. It's imaginative and so fantastic. At the same times there are many humorous parts and you'll just fall in love with all the characters.
When Artemis Fowl (a super human genius) decides to kidnap a fairy he kidnaps a cunning one and gets into quite a bit of trouble. Soon there are many schemes to get the fairy back unfortunately for all the fairy people Artemis Fowl is usually one step ahead of them.

Sorry, but I didn't like this book at all. I read it purely because it's popular and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Unfortunately with such high expectations of it being the best book ever, it's not surprising that I found myself disappointed - my own fault, really. I did, however, read the entire book, as I don't believe my opinion would've been worth a gnat's bite if I didn't. (I do hate it when people do that.)
From what I can remember, Artemis Fowl is a twelve year-old genius - and well aware of it. He wants money, and with the help of his butler/body guard he plans to capture a faerie and hold it to ransom. Unluckily for him, he ends up kidnapping Captain Holly Short of the faerie police force which has technology far in advance of any other. Holly's boss will stop at nothing to get her back, and Artemis finds his plan harder to carry out than he originally thought.
It's an interesting plot, but the main reason I didn't like it is because I didn't warm to any of the characters at all. I found that I didn't care who won or lost, and thus completely lost interest in the story. Artemis is too egotistical to feel sorry for or root for, and Holly is your typical sharp-spoken heroine - so sure of herself that I admit I didn't want her to have the satisfaction of outsmarting Artemis either.
In all honesty I found myself wanting the butler to blow them all up and run off to a desert island with all their money, I really did.

Well, everybody says that this book is fantastic and everybody already sum up the story. So I won't do it, but I'll only say what I think about this FIRST book from the serie.
To be frank, I hated. I disliked all : the characters (especially Butler and Artemis), the story, the places when the action took place...all.
Then I read the Eternity Code, just to see, and this time, I adored !
So I think that it is this tome that I disliked so much. Only this one.

I'm not really into it. The writing style is not very sophistocated, and the plot is not exactly riveting, but i have no doubts that 10-12 year olds will enjoy it. The author uses big words and stuff, but killer farts?? I'm just not feeling it.

I just thought that someone from the actual age group should review this book.
I'm 15 and I have to say that I liked this book a lot.
Although many think that it is a childish book because of the magic, fairies, etc. It actually is serious and thought provoking enough that people of a broad range will like it.
This series is about how a 12 year-old boy
"Artemis Fowl" gets himself and his bodyguard
"Butler" into trouble with a technologicaly advanced and hidden species and culture.
I think this book could be considered a family book as children, teens, and adults seem to enjoy it. :-) I RATE IT 4.25

this book was very interesting. its a bout a boy, he's lost his father, possibly deranged, and certainly evil. he is a genius. he knows things that others don't. he knows of the people that live underground. when he kidnaps one of the little people from a police foroce type thing he starts what can be called a war. its a page turner and imagination stirrer. read it and you wont be sorry

This book is quite good. Surprising compared to the jacket summary..but quite good.
Artemis is a child genius who likes to scheme. I'll leave it at that!
