An exciting book that kept me on my toes, had me crying, and left me feeling good.

Talk about a roller coaster ride. Kindra is an assassin. Her entire family are assassins. They kill without regret or mercy. Targets are more like tasks to be completed. She never questions orders from her parents, so what made her do it this time?

Kindra's father does the unthinkable, missing a target. It sends them all on a race against time to find their target before the people who would protect him do. Kindra is set on a different race. One that will take her far from the family she's known, into the arms of the family she didn't know to want. There are good people out there and the best thing that could ever happen to Kindra is to be kidnapped by said people, forcing her to question everything she's ever known and bringing her face to face with a person from her past who seems impossible.

The question is - can the killer kill her own family? Can the girl who has taken so many lives find peace and acceptance?

It took me a little while to get into the story. Even though the beginning is very action oriented, it still felt slow. But as Kindra got moving and the conflict inside of her started boiling over, it did in me as well. I truly liked her. A girl who likes to slit throats. I felt for her, sympathized with her and the rest of her crew. When she made good choices, I cheered and cringed when she was considering bad ones. That's the mark of great storytelling. Once I was into it, I was in for good, living everything with Kindra and Dru and crew.

There's romantic undertones throughout the book and I loved them. They were sweet and genuine in a way that you know is going to turn into something epic later in the series. But, I also appreciated that they didn't take it further quite yet. Kindra has a lot to work through and that would have lightened up her darkness too much. Her darkness is intriguing because of everything she has been through.

A well-done story that gets its hooks in you and doesn't let go, leaving you thinking about these characters and this plot long after your ereader has gone dark.
