YABC: What surprised you most while writing your latest book?
Andrea Young: My latest book was my first book. What surprised me the most was how incredibly fun it was to write it! I would totally get into my characters and their lives and live it while putting it on paper.
YABC: If you could live in any fantasy world, which one would it be?
AY: A world where I could rescue animals and money was never an obstacle.
YABC: Do you have a mantra that gets you through the drafting phase?
AY: Don’t edit yourself! It was great advice, and if I’m not sure, I just go forward and worry about it later.
YABC: What is your favorite hobby when you’re not writing?
AY: Horses, reading, art.
YABC: Which character gave you the most trouble when writing your latest book?
AY: None of them really. I liked them all even with all their flaws.
YABC: Do you enjoy writing to music? If so, do you have a go-to playlist?
AY: I wish!! I have to have total silence, or I can’t get in my head and live the story.
YABC: Is there an organization or cause that is close to your heart?
AY: Furever Home Kitty Rescue, Red Bucket Horse Rescue.
YABC: What’s a book that you’ve read recently that you would recommend to your readers?
AY: The Hunger Games
YABC: Which part of the writing process do you enjoy more: Drafting or Revising?
AY: Drafting! It’s fun to get lost in a fantasy world!
YABC: What would you say is your superpower?
AY: Tough question. When I was teaching a riding lesson, I asked the kids I was giving a lesson to, and they all said, “teaching.”
I was so touched!! So I guess I will go with that! 🙂
Meet Finny and the Boy From Horse Mountain!

Against the backdrop of the highmoneyed and sometimes unscrupulous equestrian sport of show jumping, Finny, a fifteenyearold girl in California, adopts an emaciated, untrained horse without her parents’ knowledge. When Joe is kidnapped by his violent uncle, Finny and Sky are the only ones who can save him. In a breathtaking finale, Sky and Finny must enter the underworld of the rodeo circuit, an afterhours, illegal race, where they will risk their lives to save the boy they love.

Andrea Young is a highly respected riding instructor at Elvenstar in Malibu, one of Southern California’s top hunterjumper barns. Her innovative work has been featured in Practical Horseman, Hunter/Jumper magazine, Show Circuit Magazine, Chronicle of the Horse, and others. She is currently writing a trilogy featuring Finny and Joe, the boy from Horse Mountain. She lives in Simi Valley, California.
