I have recently fallen in love with the Backpack Explorer books!

Backpack Explorer: Beach Walk is a highly educational interactive workbook/field guide hybrid.

Perfect for children ages 3 and up, they will learn the basics of beach going such as different sea shells, types of sand, so much more! While a bunch of the information is more suited for ocean beaches, it does work well for fresh-water beaches as well. My children (7 & 10) had a blast at our local beaches in Michigan.

Beach Walk also inspires creativity! For example it discusses things you can do in the sand, like hopscotch, or suggesting adding cute things like rocks and shells to your sand castles, making shell art & sundials, life cycles of some animals you can find on the beach, and getting your senses involved like smelling & touching!
The book does come with a small child sized magnifying glass for an up close look at beach objects, however we felt it didn't work very well, it didn't magnify as much as we would have liked for the different activities.

The illustrations are nice and colorful, mixed in with beach type photography there is a nice balance of fun & education.
Also included are fun little stickers to create a beach scene, mark off items you've recognized on the beach, as well as beach patch stickers.

Backpack Explorer: Beach Walk is a book that we will definitely take with us while exploring new beaches.
