With this take-along activity book—the fifth in the best-selling Backpack Explorer series from the Editors of Storey Publishing—kids will stop, look, listen, and touch as they search for leaves, count tree rings, notice the sound of birds or wind in the branches, gather pinecones, and feel bark. Each page is packed with prompts and activities, including 12 interactive field guides for identifying common trees, simple craft projects such as Make a Tree Rubbing or Make a Nature Mask from colorful leaves, and simple discovery features with fun tree facts. Equipped with a real magnifying glass, stickers, and log for recording tree finds, this book is the perfect accompaniment for any nature adventure.

Now nature-curious kids can play and learn with the companion Backpack Explorer online game!

I love this book series and was so excited to see a Backpack Explorer dedicated to all things tree!

The cover of the book is thicker than a paperback but not as thick as a hardback and is coated in a protective material making it lightweight and durable. The information is well laid out making it easy for kids to use. The pictures are colorful and informative, giving extra depth to this field guide.
I love the hands-on STEAM challenges, like building a fort or creating a collage. Some of the activities are great for younger children just learning to sort or make patterns.

Earning the badges as you find different object on your journey is another fun wat to reward children for getting outside and connecting with nature. The extra stickers make for a more personalized adventure.
We have not tried the Backpack Explorer online game, but might soon on rainy or cold winter days.

A tree spotting journal in the backmatter completes this fun guide book.
Perfect for kids just getting into backyard exploration!
