What worked: Younger brother Nicholas plays as if he's shooting a gun. He points it at his older brother Charlie, who tells him that their mother doesn't like when he does that. Then Nicholas shoots the moon and the consequences follow.
I love that this book addresses a very serious issue without being too preachy. It shows how everyone comes together after the moon is shot and help put it back in the sky. There's also forgiveness.
The illustrations are gorgeous and appealing to younger children. Also I feel this would be a great book to share with children and discuss afterwards.
Beautifully illustrated picture book that shows the consequences of playing with a gun in a way that isn't preachy.
