This is just the kind of book kids love. Two trolls, Grunty and Grouchy, live together in the most disgusting mess they can possibly manage and have one bumbling adventure after another. Kids will be drawn to the messiness (saving sneeze snot in a snot jar, using eggs for ping pong balls, and keeping worms in their fur are just a few examples) because it's so over the top. The illustrations are fabulous. What makes Big Splash! move beyond fascinating and into endearing are the characters of Grunty and Grouchy. They're loveable, have big hearts, and try (and often fail hilariously) to do the right thing. Kids will enjoy this exaggerated look at what it feels like to be in over your head and to be just a little out of step with everyone else.
