It is refreshing to read a book that puts a cultural spin on the adolescent experience. The main character deals with the typical teenage problems readers can relate to, but the author also weaves in an intriguing storyline that details the history and folklore of the Mayan culture. You don't even realize how much you're learning and the characters take on a new intellectual layer that keeps you reading! Such an interesting twist, complete with both comedy and suspense! Also, the main character is a strong role model for young girls, with her interests in archaeology and other cultures being the drive behind the action. A great read!
