Carry Me! tells the story of Wilbur, who doesn’t want to do anything but be carried by his mother. As adults know quite well, Mothers tend to get tired so Wilbur’s mom takes his spot in the stroller the minute he gets up. Now Wilbur has to help get his mom up the hill in the stroller and learn how much work it is to push someone in a stroller regularly.
What I liked: This book can be easily read aloud to a child or a group of children. This one is easy to follow for younger children, and older children will also enjoy it. I appreciate how the author puts the words on different portions of the book to draw your eyes through the page to the various illustrations.
Something that I liked about this book was how it depicts a different type of family because we only see Wilbur with a mom and no one else throughout the book. While this isn’t something that I caught from the first read, it was something that stood out to me the second time that I read this more closely.
I enjoyed the variety of animals that are included in this story and how all of them come together to help Wilbur at the close. You get to see how the characters are first introduced to Wilbur when his mom pushes him in the stroller through different conditions, therefore it's refreshing to see them all come together at the end to help with that change.
Final Verdict: Carry Me! is a great bedtime story for children ages 3-7 and is one that children will be asking to hear over and over. Adults will also be laughing as they relate to Wilbur’s mother as she struggles up the hill through strenuous circumstances.
