I really liked the simplicity of this book.
The author stays true to the butterflies/caterpillars in real life, instead of making them cutesy. The illustrations were very well detailed, and we enjoyed them very much.
I wasn't thrilled with the writing style, even as a beginner comic series. It just felt a little clunky to me.
I learned new things about caterpillars while reading this book with my child; like caterpillars comes from the old French word for "hairy cat" (my son got a huge kick out of that) and that it takes a LOT of cocoons to make silk!
The jokes were thrown in to compliment these facts, and helped keep my children's attention.
This book came at the perfect time, as we found a black swallow tail caterpillar in our garden who shortly made a chrysalis, we love being able to fit book into our homeschool lessons!
