Charlie Bucket is the lonely, but loved, little boy at the heart of this story.  He takes care of his family in his own little way and is rewarded by fate (and a little luck) with a Golden Ticket to Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.  Little does he know the wonders that await inside for though this candy maker has been living the live of a recluse to the outside world, he has created his own within his factory walls.  Take a walk on the chocolate side in this whimsical tale of wonder, family, and of course, candy!

Personally, I did not read this as a child....I saw the movie with Gene Wilder playing the mysterious candy maker.  I must say I loved it and felt truly sad and happy (when appropriate) for little Charlie!  Years later, having heard of the movie remake (with Johnny Depp) about to be released, I thought I would go ahead and read the original story.  Boy was I surprised to find out that the movie version I held dear was further from the book than the new wacky redo!  In the end, I love all three....how about you?  Recommended for readers of all ages!  Happy reading!

I liked this book because of silliness and great word choice. When people talk Roald Dahl puts humor into every characters speech. I have had moments when i cry, and moments when i fall off my chair laughing

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, was one of my #1 favorites by this Author. I recommend it to young teens such as ages: 5-10 yrs. of age.

Charlie buys a chocolate bar that contains one of five tickets that will allow him to tour Willy Wonka's factory. The other four children have to leave the tour due to the fact that they are lazy, spoiled, and greedy. Augustus Gloop is a greedy boy who eats too much. He falls into the chocolate waterfall because he leans too far when he drinks. Veruca Salt is a horrid girl that is VERY spoiled. She gets pushed down the garbage shute because she goes into the NUT ROOM to grab a squirrel for a pet. Charlie and his grandpa remain safe because the Bucket family are poor and are not a bunch of spoiled people.

I liked this book because of the clever rhymes, the creativity, and all the cool inventions.

This is probably one of my favorite Roland Dahl books. But I'm biased since I absolutely love chocolate and ca't seem to live with out it. He uses such ways to discribe the cand factory that you can picture it in your mind. I felt like I was Charlie and dreamed about going to a candy factory just like Wonka's.
