CLIFFORD'S SCHOOL DAY is a cute story about a day that Clifford spent at school when he was a tiny puppy. Emily Elizabeth always rides Clifford to school, but when he was a little puppy, she brought him to show-and-tell. While the class loved Clifford, they still had their lessons to do, but Clifford kept getting into trouble, like spilling the finger paints and knocking over the flour. Luckily, the teacher has ideas for how to clean - until after lunch, when she politely sends them back home until he is bigger.
What I loved: This was an overall cute board book with plenty of at-school antics. Clifford is getting into minor trouble throughout the day, but with plenty of good-natured charm as they help to correct these mishaps, giving him a bath after he gets into the finger paints and helping to rebuild the sandcastle he accidentally knocks over. The story moves smoothly and includes large, colorful illustrations that also help to convey what is happening along the way. While there were plenty of mishaps, the story stays positive with all the characters still happy to play with Clifford.
Character recognition is great for developing minds, and seeing a new story with Clifford is a great way to encourage and expand from what little ones know. They appreciate seeing and knowing about Clifford and will enjoy this new story. The events/lessons at school seem to be along the level of preschool, which also works well for this age range.
What left me wanting more: As a small thing, the story is a bit long with a few sentences on each page spread that may not work well for the youngest readers. That being said, it is a cute story, so older toddlers and preschoolers will still get into it.
Final verdict: CLIFFORD'S SCHOOL DAY is a cute board book that follows Clifford for a day of mishaps and fun at school.
