Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty by Jody Gehrman is a girl power book wrapped up in Shakespeare!  The book is based on Shakespeare's play Much Ado About Nothing, which is a comical tale of mistaken identities and thwarted love.  Geena, Hero, and Amber, work at Triple Shot Betty, a drive-through coffee shop.  The only thing Geena wants this summer is for her best friend, Amber, and her cousin, Hero, to become best friends.  She envisions lazy summer days of painting toenails together and having slumber parties.  Things get complicated when Hero and Amber don't get along, begin fighting over guys, and plot against Geena!  It's one wild summer that Geena will never forget!

This is a great summer read!  It's full of romance, adventure, it's hilarious, and you could read in it one day!  I must caution that it contains sexual references and language.  Other than that, it's a great story about girl power and the power of friendship!  After reading this, you will want to give your best friend a huge hug!

Title: Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty
Author: Judy Gehrman
Publisher: Penguin
Date published: 2008
Type of book: Young Adult (Shakespeare, Virginity, First Love, Coffee Shops/Summer Jobs)
Pages: 255
I received this book from/at: local library
My interest in this book is: plot

Ideas expressed/message/plot: From book jacket: WATCH OUT, WORLD. THE BETTYS HAVE ARRIVED. Geena wants to hang out with her best girl pals this summer, but when her cousin Hero and her best friend Amber meet, its hate at first sight. The worst part is that all three have to work together at the Triple Shot Betty coffee shack. Geenas dreams of a girl-bonding summer are driven away completely when a few cute (okay, drop-dead gorgeous) guys come along o woo he Bettys. But all is not what it seems, and in a story of mistaken identities and romantic summer high jinks, Geena and her friends discover that when Bettys unite, they can take on the most powerful force in their world. A HOT GUY.

Favorite characters, quotes/lines: Geena: she was really funny and I liked how she could be really laid-back and tomboyish, but at the same time really girly; Hero: she seemed a bit dense at first, but I liked her later on; Amber: I could definitely relate her to real life girls (not everyone is what they seem); Ben: the perfect Byronic hero! Very funny and cute.

When I finished this book I felt: This book was really cute, really funny, and sent a good message. Im excited to read the next book: Bettys in Love.

Other books to read by this author: Bettys in Love

I would recommend this book to: Any girl not really a guy book

Geena is beyond excited for her perfect summer. She plans on having a great time with her two best friends Amber and her cousin Hero who is coming home from private school for the summer. All three of them are going to work at the Triple Shot Betty coffee shop. But, things don't go as planned. From the moment they meet Hero and Amber are instant enemies and Geena is stuck somewhere in the middle of the fighting. But, things get worse when boys become a part of the equation. Geena is even set up with her enemy Ben just so Hero can get close to the cute Italian boy that she's crushing on. Soon everything is crazy and chaotic but, will Geena manage to have her perfect summer?

THOUGHTS

This book couldn't have been more fun to read! I was instantly hooked, within the first couple of pages. I loved the ending it was perfect. Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty is a fun read!

Geenas plans for the summer include hanging out with her two best buds, Hero and Amber and working at the Triple Shot Betty coffee shack. Unfortunately, Geenas dreams are shattered as soon as Amber and Hero meet. The two of them dont get along. Period.

And just to make things more complicated, add a bunch of guys to the mix. Theres Claudio whos head over heels in love with Hero. And, then, theres John, popular, handsome John. Ambers in love with him. But he wants Hero. And then theres Geena and Ben whose long-standing rivalry looks like it might turn into something different.

What follows is a tale of summer romance and hilarious adventures.

There were many, many reasons why I loved this book. But the main one, without a doubt was the characters. Each character, even the secondary characters, was wel-developed and had distinct voices. As I was reading the novel, I could hear the characters in my head.

In addition, the book was HILARIOUS. After reading ambeens review, I paid close attention to the June 17th entry. And, I second her recommendation. Read that entry and then you will want the book.

Also, Jody Gehrmans terrific writing skills helped the plot move along smoothly. The plot was original and exciting. It was one of those books that you have to finish as soon as you start it. In fact, I liked it so much that Ive already reread once. (Rereading, to me, is a mark of a good book. I never reread books I dont love.)

Id recommend this book to anyone looking for a good laugh or those who loves chick-lit. <3 Im so glad that a sequels going to be released soon.

In conclusion, buy this book. It is easily worth the money. Not only is it an AMAZING book, its also scented. ;)

Triple Shot Betty is hilarious. I was not expecting it to be so funny. Jody Gehrman has a great sense of humor and it works wonderfully in the novel. The June 17th entry would have to be my favorite aswell as when I was laughing the hardest. I could barely hold the book steady to keep reading I was laughing so much. Go to the bookstore, read that entry and you'll have to have the book.

Aside from the humor, the book was extremely well written and fluid. I was captivated from the start and felt like I really knew each character. Each Betty is different from the others, and I was able to relate to each of them. I felt they were all equally presented, even with the narration coming from just one.

Triple Shot Betty is fun and original and a book that I highly recommend. I am so glad this book has a sequel in the works, Triple Shot Bettys in Love. I can't wait to join the Bettys for more fun and laughter!

Geenas plan for the summer is to have some girl time with her best female buddies, her friend Amber and her cousin Hero. But when the two meet, it seems that theyre polar opposites. This rivalry makes it difficult for the three girls to work together at the Triple Shot Betty coffee shack. Enter three hot guys, and theyre if for a very interesting summer.

Geena is determined to somehow make Amber and Hero get along, but its not as easy as it sounds. And a complicated love tangle involving the two enemies and two boys only makes it worse. But along with them, theres skater girl Geena, helping her friends sort things out and even falling for her biggest competition in school, a cute guy names Ben.

Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty was a very fun and enjoyable read, as one could predict from the awesome title. I love how Geena is the snarky smart girl, a lot like Maya from Shes So Money by Cherry Cheva; Geenas funny comments kept me laughing aloud throughout the whole book. and all the other characters are also lovable (minus the villain of course).

Another exciting aspect of this novel was the partially unpredictable plot. I was able to foresee the romance between Geena and Ben, bit I was very surprised by the events at the ending of the novel. This was definitely a good thing, and I really felt like yelling out Girl power! when I finished reading the book.

Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty was a highly entertaining read that I recommend to everyone. Theres definitely a little bit of something for everyone. Its recently published, so I suggest you all go out and buy a copy (its scented!) along with a couple of other novels by Jody Gehrman such as Notes from the Backseat.
