A thrilling new addition to a fantastic series.

The story:
Crown's shield picks up right where Rebel's Blade leaves off. The two princes now know who Sage is. Not only that, but Sam has even known her family for a long time. She's no longer just a rebel to gain information from, she's their access to the rebels - if she chooses to be. With Aermia bracing for attack from across their borders, a civil war would leave them vulnerable to their enemies. It's imperative now more than ever that they find a way to reunite their people behind the crown. And Sage may just be the key to all of that.

What I loved: Pretty much everything. Frost Kay writes such intriguing stories. This wasn't what I was expecting and that's awesome. The characters come to life brilliantly, making me want to slap them or befriend them or kiss them. Gav is the most genuine. Sam is misunderstood. Tehl ... well, we're really not sure what he is yet. And Sage. She's the best of them all. Tough but vulnerable. Smart. Beautiful.
The world is just as vibrant - from the fishing village and the surprising character there to the palace and everything that surrounds it.

What was just okay for me:
Sometimes there were some very modern sayings or words that felt a bit out of place in the world that was created.

Final Verdict:
A story that'll entrance any fantasy fan with its surprising story, well-developed characters, and beautifully painted world.
