Willow has spent most of her life as her mother's sidekick in a popular Las Vegas hypnotism show. So when she and her mom move back to their sleepy southern hometown to start over, she thinks she's in for a life of quiet normalcy. Except that her new life turns out to be anything but, when she kinda sorta hypnotizes Quinton, the hottest guy on the football team, to fall madly, deeply, head over heels in love with her. But what started out as an innocent way to make her best friend, Max, jealous soon gets way out of hand, and Willow begins to wonder if the mind - and more importantly, the heart - is something you can really control.

So this book was a really fun read. I loved the characters, and while I didn't agree with some of the choices characters made, it was a fast read that I read in one sitting.

The plot was fun - I loved the idea of hypnosis. I wasn't crazy about some of the applications, but I loved how it centered at basis of every plot point of the book. Being a topic I didn't know much about, I loved the little facts about it I learned as Willow went through her excursions.

Willow was a character whose decisions had me on edge - I didn't understand why you would choose to do such a thing, so therefore that part of the book I wasn't as crazy about. I loved Mia - she was a character I really liked getting to know. Georgia was a riot - she was just too fun. Max was just awesome.

The ending was so sweet and I absolutely adored it. This was another fun read by Jennifer Jabaley. I would suggest it for a summer day where you just want to sit back and read a fun story.

Cover Rating: B - I love the similarity between Crush Control and Lipstick Apology with the face in the sky and the city along the bottom.

First Impressions: I was hearing all sorts of good things about Crush Control from other reviewers and decided I needed to get my hands on a copy. I had previously read Lipstick Apology, Jennifer Jabaley’s debut novel, and I absolutely loved that book.

First 50 Pages: It cracked me up! The humor in this book is fabulous. Every other page I read, I kept laughing, sometimes until my face hurt. The humor in this book is definitely my favorite aspect. I don’t think the book would have been as good without it. There are some hilarious scenes involving condoms and Willow’s crazy mutt of a dog, Oompa. I would have died of embarrassment if certain things that happened in this book happened to me.

Style of Writing and Plot Points: Jennifer Jabaley’s style of writing is very laid-back and easy to read. There are no big complicated words or plot points in this book. It is very relaxing and easy to handle for just about any age group. The plot is simple and lacks a bit of creativity. It is basically about a girl trying to make her best friend jealous and win his affection. The main character, Willow, has been in love with her best friend, Max, for just about forever. The use of hypnosis on other characters is what sets this book apart from other books with similar plots. I don’t know too much about actual hypnosis so I don’t know if what Willow and her mother were doing during the book is how hypnosis actually works. Regardless, it gave an unoriginal book an interesting twist.

My Final Thoughts: While the book lacks creativity, it makes up for it with humor and a interesting twist to win over the boy crush. It has unique characters, a funny little dog, and multiple scene settings which make the book stand out from others. While I can’t say it is my favorite, I did enjoy it very much. If you are looking for a funny, quick and easy read that is perfect for a day at the beach, this one is for you.

This is what great YA fiction is all about! A cute romance, great family relationships, a story with a lot of heart, and a little supernatural twist.

Quinton was just too adorable as her hypnotized boyfriend. Never mind that she was using hypnosis to make him what she thought was her perfect boyfriend! It was too cute too see him take the smitten boyfriend to the extreme.

I liked the storyline with Willow's family a lot. It felt very real. Even though she, her mother, and her grandmother all clashed at times, you could tell there was a lot of love in their family.

I also liked that the "mean girl" cheerleader really wasn't that mean after all. Mia was a well-rounded character who actually added a lot to the story.
