A beautiful storybook about a little girl, her grandmother, and the family life and culture they share. Both enjoy quiet times together, tai chi in the park, making dumplings, and the girl never expects any of that to change. But when grandma gets sick, she realizes that not every day can be the same, and when grandma is better again, the girl values their times together even more.
The heart of this book is traditions and family. The dumpling nights show knowledge passing from generation to generation, and also how family roles evolve over time, as children grow and become caretakers. I love how it presents both the melancholy of loved ones aging and the joy of experiencing different life stages together, and it's sure to resonate with little ones growing up in multigenerational communities.
