When a dolphin speaks to thirteen-year-old Maya while she bodysurfs at Laguna Beach, she doesn’t expect to be trampled shortly afterward by the horses and chariot of Poseidon, the ancient Greek god of the sea. In DAY MONSTERS, Maya is caught between Greek gods relocating to Southern California and vengeful Titans bringing tsunamis, earthquakes, fire and mayhem. Prometheus and his kin are determined to destroy California rather than allow the Olympians a new home. By helping the gods, Maya hopes to save her family and join the ranks of heroines such as Atalanta and Persephone.

Since my ten-year-old daughter is too shy to write a review I thought I would post what she said after she read this book (reading it and ignoring her dinner). She is an avid reader and has devoured the entire Harry Potter series 12 times, and read the Rick Riordan series as well. She said that Day Monsters (and its companion book, Night Monsters) was "her favourite book after Harry Potter."
Good Points
Marcia Sargent is a master storyteller and has written a highly entertaining book for about young adults about a modern day girl and ancient Greek Gods.
