Kate and her sister Georgia move to Paris after the death of their parents. Kate retreats into her reading and doesn't want anything to do with the world. It's just too painful.
Then she sees this hot guy who seems to pop up everywhere. She's intrigued and wants to know more about him. After a near fatal accident, she's even more determined to find out more. What she finds is almost more than she can bear. Can she handle getting close to this mysterious stranger, only to lose in him in death?
To start off, I really loved how the author painted the setting. I'd never been to Paris but the way she paints the city is almost artistic with the lush details and descriptions.
Kate's pain is shown in a very real way. I also liked how the author showed Kate's sister Georgia's way of dealing with the deaths of their parents. Instead of retreating into a classic, she goes clubbing throughout the seedier parts of Paris. Each sister deals with pain in different ways. Also they are opposite in personalities too.
The idea of a revenant, someone who dies in the place of another is intriguing. I love when an author shows a different paranormal ability. The whole vampire/werewolf/fairy thing can get old after a while. There's also the opposite of a revenant, a numa, someone who is out to destroy. I liked this aspect too.
I really wanted to love this story but one thing kind of bugged me. Vincent was almost too stalker-like. As a revenant he dies numerous times. The book does mention that one of the downsides of being a revenant is becoming obsessed with the person he/she saves. I thought Vincent really obsessed over Kate to the point if I was her, I'd hide. Even Kate mentions how Vincent's obsession was almost too much. That was a little too Twilight for me. But that's just my opinion.
Die for Me does have a unique premise and a great setting.
