Review Detail
Emily is the sick one of the family. It seems as if shes always sick. Shes hoping that her usual Emily flu will go away during the start of her senior year of high school. Instead she gets worse. After some tests, shes diagnosed with West Nile virus. Emily watches her last year of high school pass her by.Â
I enjoyed this memoir of a teen who struggles with her mysterious illness. Emily story is based on her blog. Her humor and quirkiness brings this tale to life. As does her Mennonite faith.  I love how when shes at her lowest point of her life, she mentions how her faith in God helps her. But that doesnt mean she just accepts what has happened. She wants to go on a Kenya trip with her family but knows with her illness that cant happen. Also she feels like a stranger at her small high school because shes out so much. Emily story is real and refreshing in her frankness.  Her story is sure to resonate with others. Check out Emily's blog at http://www.xanga.com/SupergirlEmzel
This is another of the Louder Than Words books. Whats unique about this series is that each book is written by a real teen who struggles with real issues.Â
