Eon has been revealed as Eona, the first female Dragoneye in hundreds of years. Along with fellow rebels Ryko and Lady Dela, she is on the run from High Lord Sethon's army. The renegades are on a quest for the black folio, stolen by the drug-riddled Dillon; they must also find Kygo, the young Pearl Emperor, who needs Eona's power and the black folio if he is to wrest back his throne from the selfstyled "Emperor" Sethon. Through it all, Eona must come to terms with her new Dragoneye identity and power-and learn to bear the anguish of the ten dragons whose Dragoneyes were murdered. As they focus their power through her, she becomes a dangerous conduit for their plans. . . .

Eona, with its pulse-pounding drama and romance, its unforgettable fight scenes, and its surprises, is the conclusion to an epic only Alison Goodman could create.

If you are looking for a book with drama, treachery, romance, war, spirit and heroism, then, Eona: The Last Dragoneye by Alison Goodman is perfect for you. It is a continuation of Eon: Dragoneye Reborn. As per the publisher, in the first book, twelve-year-old Eon has been in training for years. His intensive study of Dragon Magic, based on East Asian astrology, involves two kinds of skills: sword-work and magical aptitude. He and his master hope that he will be chosen as a Dragoneye an apprentice to one of the twelve energy dragons of good fortune.

But Eon has a dangerous secret. He is actually Eona, a sixteen-year-old girl who has been masquerading as a boy for the chance to become a Dragoneye. Females are forbidden to use Dragon Magic; if anyone discovers she has been hiding in plain sight, her death is assured.

In Eona, the secret is out. At the end of the first book, Dragoneye Lord Ido, in an attempt to seize power, has killed all other Dragoneyes except Eona who has escaped. He has massacred the royal family, leaving only the true ruler, Kygo and his half brother, Sethon, who has taken over the throne. Sethon has also captured and jailed Lord Ido, torturing him for information about the Dragons and their power.

In Eona, she reunites with Kygo but realizes that she needs Lord Ido to teach her how to use her Dragoneye power, needed to defeat Sethon and restore the throne to the rightful ruler. The small force of resistance fighters must free the power-hungry but humbled Lord Ido, who cannot be trusted, from the midst of the palace. They must then gather their forces to meet Sethon in battle. However, the powers of the Dragon and the Dragoneye are complex and there is a 500 year old story that is trying to get out through Eonas ancestor, Kinra, about how Dragoneye power came to be.

Alison Goodman is a wonderful author. She has crafted a riveting tale of honor and war, power and love, honesty and treachery. The Dragons are based on Chinese astrology. The story is tense and spine tingling. The writing is great. The characters are unique. You will stay up nights in order to finish the book. I know I did. Every extra minute was consumed reading Eona: The Last Dragoneye, just like every waking moment of Eonas was consumed trying to understand her powers. Dont miss Eon and Eona.

This book is just...amazing. I'm almost rendered speechless by the magnificence of this book. No words can do this book justice. My review, also, cannot do justice to this book. I'm just trying to transfer my emotions from this book into words. I'm finding it much harder than anticipated.

Here goes:
The beginning, yet again, was great! The author did a very good job drawing me in from the very first page. It takes place a few days after Eon ends. They have escaped from the Imperial Palace and are now in the Fischer Village. Ryko is dying from battle wounds and quite frankly, Eona has no idea what to do. Dela insists that she at least attempt to heal Ryko, so she does. Ryko heals, but with a price. Eona can now control Ryko's will power. (She later discovers this when her fury overtakes her mind and realizes she can control Ryko's will power). After she heals him, she blacks out. She wakes up two days later in a cart, playing the part of a grieving mother. She plays this part because if Sethon's soldiers happen to pass by, they will have a cover-up. And they do...one of the lieutants has a wife that also lost a child. He pities her and insists that they will travel with them to the next village. They try to convince him that they don't need their protection, but he insists until they agree. They go to the next village, planning to have Ryko get the prince and tell him the news of his mother's death and brother's death. They get a room and later on hear a caucous downstairs. They then realize it is the prince in a mad-crazed state of mind from the news of his families deaths. And the story continues on from there...

Let me tell I ABSOLUTELY loved this book, if you can't already tell from my high rating. I thought the pacing was just right balanced and the anticiptation of reading was is going to happen next kept me staring wide-eyed at the pages. I was crying also...uummm maybe alot...."cough, cough"...
But, anyways I recommend this book to everybody! It was great...so just go ahead and listen to my advice already. Please tell me I don't have to try to convince you some more. :D

GENRE: Young Adult Fantasy
FORM: Audio Book
NARRATOR: Nancy Wu
SERIES: Eon

SYNOPSIS: Eona is no longer hiding the fact that she is a girl. Times are too unstable and life too unpredictable to keep up the pretense. What is most important now is that Eona learn how to use her powers. This isn’t as easy as it sounds, as it means rescuing Lord Ido, the Rat Dragoneye, so he can help train her. In addition to the well being of the land and people resting on her shoulders, and helping Lord Kygo retrieve his Emperor status; dethroning the nasty tyrant, Emperor Sethon, Eona is also in a constant battle of deciding the right and wrong ways of using her Dragon’s power, and which of her friends are true and which are just out to use her.

REVIEW: I was on the edge of my seat, “please do not bother me,” mode while listening to this book. I felt like it was unrelentless action, drama and romance. In the first book, the story is set up and played out well, but here in Eona, this is where the true heart of the story really takes place. It is very rare that I love the second book of a series better than the first. I typically favor the first encounter, even with books, the most. This book is an exception!

A love triangle, if you can call it that, has never played out so well. Fire and passion, confusion and betrayal – all are involved. I had strong moments of actually rooting for the wrong person, however the ending was beautiful and sweet and just right.

Alison Goodman writes a fantastic story, filled with beautiful imagery and so much suspense it’s nearly impossible to put the book down. The combination of romance and action was perfect, and this is a Fantasy Novel in every aspect as well. So even if you are not a big fan of the popular Romantic Fantasy/Paranormal novel, but prefer a Fantasy in its purest form – I really think that you would enjoy this series. It’s worth a shot anyway!
Good Points
The story was so beautifully told, and complete without being over the top or too wordy. I didn’t even realize how long the book was, because I was too sucked in to the story to care.
