Review Detail

Didn't know what to expect going in, but I actually liked it. Actually enjoyed all the characters, which is somewhat rare for me.

Devon, was great. Her trying to figure out what really happened to this guy that she knew. Did he really do it? Even if they didn't throw their friendship in front of everyone, what they had was real. Defending Hutch even when his friends dismissed it as a "cowardly" act. When her classmates start telling her all about this secrets, questioning her motive on why she was really doing this.

Hutch, his friends end up saying one version of him, not matching up with what Dev knew. We finally see to know who he really is, find out who his true friends are.

The other characters were great.
Grant- Dev's friend. [First he wanted to be more than friends, but then we actually find out that Eric, Hutch's bro, was paying him to get close to Dev to find out what she knew about what happened to Hutch. Going as far as to steal her notebooks where she had written about her consultations with Hutch's friends. (hide spoiler)]

Isla- Hutch's girlfriend. [Well she was something. She wasn't in a good place when she starts going to the consultations with Dev. We find out she's not this picture perfect that everyone is making her out to be. She's hooked on pills, pretty much spiraling out of control and is in denial about it. Finally gets the help she needs. (hide spoiler)]

Matt- Hutch's Best Friend. [ Another roller coaster ride. First he was against the consultation. Didn't really see the point of it, but he eventually, reluctantly, starts opening up to Dev. He introduces her to this big ass mess that's going on in the school. A mess that Hutch was involved, but decided to get out and handed it over to Matt. As the story goes on, he starts showing cracks. In a way, the pressure got to him and he left. Resigned from school and went to San Francisco, sort of his own tribute to Hutch. (hide spoiler)]

Bodhi- Hutch's Partner. [At first he's just introduced as this bad guy, drug dealing, MIT drop out, nothing-but-trouble guy. As he and Dev start talking about what might've really happened to Hutch, we actually get to know him better. We figured out why he dropped out of school and went back to Monte Vista. He's actually a good guy. (hide spoiler)]

Raven- Bodhi's sister. [She was a freshman who became really good friends with Hutch over the summer. Her and her brother didn't believe that Hutch could do that to himself so end up hashing it all out with Dev about their concerns. (hide spoiler)]

Great concept. I actually enjoyed it, wouldn't mind if there was another book in the series. Or a mini novella, to catch up one last time with these characters.
