Nick and Allie don't survive the car accident... ...but their souls don't exactly get where they're supposed to get either. Instead, they're caught halfway between life and death, in a sort of limbo known as Everlost: a shadow of the living world, filled with all the things and places that no onger exist. It's a magical, yet dangerous place where bands of lost children run wild and anyone who stands in the same place too long sinks to the center of the Earth.

When they find Mary, the self-proclaimed queen of lost kids, Nick feels like he he's found a home, but Allie isn't satisfied spending eternity between worlds. Against all warnings, Allie begins learning the "Criminal Art" of haunting, and ventures into dangerous territory, where a monster called the McGill threatens all the souls of Everlost.

In this imaginative novel, Neal Shusterman explores questions of life, death, and what just might lie in between.

After a head-on car crash, Nick and Allie are de-railed on their way to the Hereafter into a netherworld called the Everlost. Everlost is where dead children and teens wind up if they somehow dont make it to their final destination. It is by no means safe there are rumors of horrible monsters and the danger of stepping onto living ground which can suck an Afterlighter (thats what the spirits are called) under. No one knows exactly what happens to those who sink do they just keeping going until they reach the center of the Earth? Are they stuck there for all eternity, surrounded by dirt or molten lava at the Earths core?

To keep safe, you must stick to dead spots, or spots where someone had died or a large catastrophe had taken place. Nick, Allie, and Lief (a young child who had been stuck in the Everlost for quite a long time (long enough to forget his name), soon find a very large dead spot that seems safe: The Twin Towers in New York City.

Mary Hightower, called by some Mary, Queen of the Snots, had taken up residence there and presided over all of the children who came like a true Queen Mother. But were her intentions good&or something else entirely? Nick, infatuated with Mary, is quick to fall into the routine of things, but Allie is determined not to fall into the rut that she sees all the other children in as they do the same things and play the same games every day.

Mary wishes to be rid of Allie, considering her a bad influence on her flock. Soon, someone has hinted to Allie that theres a kid in Everlost who has learned the power of reaching into the living world. Allie talks Lief and Nick into going with her to see the Haunter.

The Haunter, however, isnt exactly a benevolent spirit. He traps Nick and Lief in pickle barrels and Allie herself barely escapes. When she goes back to Mary to ask for help in rescuing Nick and Lief, Mary refuses. So Allie takes things into her own hands and finds a group of bullies that had terrorized her on the way to New York.

Johnnie-O agrees to help, even though he doesnt like girls, based on the promise of the real food that theyll be able to plunder from the Haunter. But when they get back, they discover that the infamous McGill, the one true monster of Everlost, has been there before them. He trapped the Haunter in one of his own pickle barrels and took the others with him.

Now Allie is again on her own, since no one else will dare go against the McGill. She learns that she has the ability to skinjack, or take brief possession of living souls. Using this skill, she makes her way onto the ship that the McGill and his crew call home. After that, it is a battle of wills.

The resolution of the book is a surprising one and Im definitely not going to give any of it away. Theres too much for you to discover on your own.

I found Everlost to be an intriguing and interesting book that fully engrosses the reader. When you put it down, youll have to give yourself a minute to come back to the real world. Recommended for readers aged 12 and up and anyone that wants to spark their imagination.

Everlost was based on the authors opinion on how life could be taken from us and given back in a strange way. Nick and Allie must journy around the everlost world in search of the answers they crave to know about the world. They meet friends and emenys but in the end they find a way to make everything work for them , along with all the answer they were searching in the beggin.

Everlost was an amazing book in the perspective of two young kids named Nick and Allie after they die in a car accident.  But they don't end up going to heaven or "seeing the light" they get stuck in Everlost. Everlost is a mysterious place it contains thousands objects and kids who can't cross over.  While Nick is fine in Everlost as long as he doesn't stay in one spot to long, other wise they start sinking into the center of the earth, Allie will stop at nothing to get out of Everlost.  Will Nick, Allie and the other thousands of kids ever find a way to leave Everlost? Well... I tell you that you will have to read it for yourself!

Everlost was a really good book.  It took me forever to read it but when I finally finished it, I was like, "Man, that was a really good book."  Want the truth?  The truth is that this was the best book I have ever read by far!  I really loved the McGill.  Great character and the way he described it was just awesome.  Allie was a cool character, too.  I liked the way she never really gave up.  When Nick got caught in the barrel, he completely gave up and didn't even try to think of any way to get out which is one reason I like his character.  If he was just like Allie, the book would have been boring.  I like the name of the boat, too.  I actually forget what it was called but i remember when I read it, I was like, what a cool name for a boat!

I liked the topic, the plot, of the story.  Two kids get caught between life and death and when they end up getting caught in sticky situations, they always do their best to get out of it.  But, when the McGill comes along and makes everything that much worse, they don't know what to do.
If you think of it that way, it seems really really good and it was really really good.  I have read it once and I am thinking of reading it again just for the fun of it.  If you have not read this book yet, you have to. I can guarentee you being satisfied 100%.  It was a really really good book written by a great author who has a wonderful creative mind.

Everlost is a very interesting book to be read. Me and my friends really love the book. That we created our own sequel from the story. By the way, we started working since last month after we finished reading the whole content and then, craved for more PARTS.

It deserves a part 2. Mr. Neal really did the job for making his readers coming back for more of his works. But, we really craved for more part of the book. The scenes still linger  inside our minds.

The story made us laugh, be amazed, be willing and of course we became an avid fun of Mr. Neal's work.

Good job. We hope for the next part to be published (If there will be. And we hope that there will be!) and a movie. Yes. We craved for the movie.

P.S. I don't know but this book made us insane.

Everlost was one of the best books I have ever read and i think I will ever read!I think it is sad that Nick and Ali don't surrvive the car accident. But I also think it is cool that both kids are caught half way between life and death.Um...........
I knew from the veary begening that Mary Hightower(Meggan) is the sky witch but then I got to thinking that she may not be but in the end it turns out to be her,now to me I found that hrd to belive because she was Nick's friend and starting to be Ali's friend also. And I also found it hard to belive that Mary Hightower's brother was the Migul.I also found it sad when they reviled how Mary and her brother died I thought that was really sad.But all in all it was the best book ever!

When I searched the library looking for a book, I came upon this one. I thought it was like a horror book at first but when I opened it it was totally different. It makes a reader wonder how death really would feel like being away from love ones, and knowing that you will never see them. The imagery fills your head with pictures. I'm so happy the lord placed this book upon me. It showed me to be patient and appreciate today because tomorrow isn't promised.

A book people should read would be Everlost. The author was Neal Shusterman. The book is about to kids a boy and girl. They die in a car accitden. They get lost when they die. They try to get home. But they can't.

I didn't like that it took long to get somewhere. This book isn't like any book I read before it is very different. I would recommend this book to any one that gets lost. I don't know if I would read any more books by the same author.
