Evermore (The Immortal Series)
Alyson Noel
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Release Date: February 3, 2009
Pages: 301
Reading Level: Young Adult

Rating: 5 stars

Since a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, Ever can see auras, hear people's thoughts, and know a person's entire life story by touch. Going out of her way to avoid human contact and suppress her abilities has branded her as a freak at her new high schoolbut everything changes when she meets Damen.

Damen Auguste is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy. He's the only one who can silence the noise and random energy in her headwielding a magic so intense, it's as though he can see straight into her soul. As Ever is drawn deeper into his enticing world of secrets and mystery, she's left with more questions than answers. She has no idea just who he really isor what he is. The only thing she knows to be true is she's falling deeply and helplessly in love with him.

I could not wait to get my hands on Evermore! I had read Alyson Noel's other books, and could not wait to read another! I absolutely loved it! I read straight through this one.
I really liked the plot Noel created. It was exciting and kept you interested. Evermore was well written, and flowed together nicely.
Ever's character was intriguing. I could really feel for her, what she was going through. Damen was interesting, but you did not find out as much about him or feel for him as much. Not much of a backstory was given, but maybe that's to come? Miles was one of my favorite characters. Something about him was just very agreeable. Haven was a great character. She was different and realistic. Drina was interesting as well, but there could have maybe been a bit more to her.
I thought the cover was absolutely beautiful.
I simply cannot wait for Blue Moon, book 2 in the Immortal Series. I read the preview in the back of Evermore, and it sounds just amazing!

Also, I'd just like to add this. I've heard so many comparisons of Evermore to Twilight, and I really do not get it. They are completely different. Everything these days is compared to Twilight...

It has been 3 years since Jessica Darling and Marcus Flutie have broken up. Things have changed, big time. Jessica and Marcus aren't the same people that they were three years ago when She said no to marrying him. Now on her to a wedding she runs into the person she least expects to see, Marcus Flutie. Things get even crazier from there but, I don't want to give away too much spoilers.

Thoughts

I'm not going to lie I had high expectations while reading this book. One thing that I had mixed feelings on was, how the book was written. Instead of it being just Jessica's journal entries the book is told in third person narrative, which gave me the chance to finally know what Marcus was thinking. That was great. I did feel a little disappointed that I didn't get the chance to read the story from Jessica's journals alone. I also loved how all of the characters are mentioned throughout the book. That made me really happy, I was scared when I read the summary that I wouldn't get to find out what happened to the rest of the characters. I loved the ending, it was amazing. Overall, I guess that I was happy with the story, in fact Perfect Fifths is one of my favorites!

After Ever's family is killed in a car accident, she can see people's auras, and she talks to her sister's ghost every day. One day, though, a guy called Damen comes to her school who doesn't have an aura at all. He also seems very interested in her, and she can't stop thinking about him. Also, one of her best friends starts becoming close with another aura-less girl who's changing who she is.

Evermore is an interesting book that doesn't tell you what's happening straight-out at first. It made me want to know what was going on. Also, Ever's romantic interest in Damen is written in a descriptive way that allows readers to relate to Ever and understand exactly what she's feeling. I enjoyed Evermore, and I recommend it.

In Evermore Alyson Noel has woven an enticing beginning to her the immortals series. The main protag's name, Ever Bloom*, is beautiful and original, and makes an interesting play-on. The relationship between Ever and Damen progressed a little too quickly in the beginning, going from I-definitely-don't-have-a-thing-for-him to BAM! I'm-irrevocably-in-love-with-him, but this doesn't stand out glaringly, due to Noel's beautiful storytelling style.

Diction choice was eloquent and flowed beautifully, especially with those descriptions coming in groups of three. The concept behind the story was intriguing, and it was a new take on common YA themes. Characterization was very well done; Ever is real and dimensional, suffering in silence and just wanting an escape from the angst of her life experience at such a tender age. The besties Haven and Miles were interesting personas, quircky but endearing. The "magical" characters were relatively good, but there were facets that were slightly shallow and uncredible. The tie-ins to history were nicely inserted, and rooted the story more firmly in realism.

Summerland was a beautiful idea. Noel has crafted quite the introduction to her immortals saga, and it's no wonder that Evermore has cracked bestseller lists. Evermore is a wonderful urban fantasy/paranormal romance read that will be enjoyed by many teenage female fans, if current trends are accurately predictive. I'm definitely going to be checking out the sequel, Blue Moon (August 2009).

This book was in one word amazing. It had different elements that made for a smooth, well thought out plotline. The mysterious Damen will leave you breathless and the confused and slighty depressed Ever will leave you questioning. The only bads to this book would be how the end plays out but knowing that there's a sequel, it won't be long until the background story picks up. I enjoyed the break from all the vampire hysteria going around however there's a bit of supernatural spunk with bits about love , life , and friendship. I suggest this to anyone, it;s easy to read and enjoyable.
