This book is distribuing. From the begining sequence where the main charachter talks about how he loves the smell of books burning the smell of kerosene. Fahrenheir 451 is a reference to the temperature that books burn. I was disturbed by the thought of books burning. This should be a book that you have to read inorder to pass high school. It is a great read, but very weird.

Ray Bradburys Fahrenheit 451 is a futuristic novel that depicts a totalitarian society that practices censorship and destroys individual thought. The book follows fireman Guy Montag, whose job it is to start fires to burn homes with books rather than put out fires. After Montag has conversations with an old English professor and a young girl named Clarisse who both have the rare gift of being able to think for themselves, Montag begins to question his life. He realizes that there is something missing and that he is greatly unhappy, and he feels that whatever he is missing can be found in the books. Montag begins to realize the importance of ideas and things such as books, and decides to try to change the ways of his society.

Well, folks, it's famous for a good reason. The book is Fifty years old, and it is perhaps more relevant than ever. But so what? Is it good writing? Does it entertain? Does it have real characters Oh, yes it does! It's absolutely fantastic and I just plain can't recommend it enough. If you love sci-fi, great. If not, it doesn't matter. I can say definitelyn"transcends the genre".

i would not have chosen to read this book if i didn't have to for school. it was really long and every sentence was stretched out. it took like 2 and 1/2 pages just to describe how he walked into a room! and it was really boring too. the only cool part was how they burned books. that was cool. i also expected this book to take place in the past, but it took place in the future. that was kinda cool but also really weird and confusing.

What would society be like without books? Well, this website wouldn't exist, that's for sure. Fahrenheit 451 explores the perils of censorship and the elusive necessity for free speech and expression. This novel is essential for any young American who strives to understand political motivations in education. I would recommend it to high-school students, but it wouldn't be beyond younger readers and is certainly appropriate for older ones.
