Sixteen-year-old Faith Herbert has a secret. She can fly. When she runs into her fangirl crush Dakota, star of the fictional world THE GROVE, she's in heaven. And things even look rosier when Dakota might actually like her too. Then things start happening around town. When animals and then people go missing, Faith might have to use her new super hero ability to save those around her at the risk of her own life.
What worked: This is an amazing story with a new superhero character who is endearing and someone I'd love to be friends with. Add to that she's not the 'typical' superhero either. She's curvaceous and also queer. Plus, she's humorous, loves animals, and is loyal to her friends.
Murphy once again gives readers a protagonist who is someone you can't help but love. The story line is fast-paced and the other characters are quirky and just as lovable. The romance between Faith and Dakota had chemistry and I totally was team Dakota, especially with that 'first' kiss.
Faith is a typical teen with worrying about her Grandma Lou, unsure on whether she likes boys or girls or both, having compassion for rescue animals, and struggling on whether or not to share her new superhero ability with her BFFs Ches and Matt.
This is the first book in a dualogy that goes over the story of Faith, a superhero from the Valiant comic universe. I totally devoured this book in a few sittings. I loved Faith's voice and would follow her anywhere!
Engaging, confident queer super heroine who navigates her way through not only her senior year in high school, but investigating the sudden string of missing animals and people in her town. Add a bubbling romance, suspense, and of course, a character that is sure to make you smile.
Total win!
