this book changed my opinion about historical fiction, honest. told for a first person point of view (Mattie), so the story appeared so real. i could imagine how bad philadelphia was during the outbreak and couldn't help feeling sorry for mattie's struggle to survive.sweet, sad and definitely entertaining.

It was an okay book. It's crammed with many historical facts and details that made it worth reading. It's breathtaking at times and I was relieved that the girl had an okay end. She didn't die, but a lot of her friends and family did. Gripping, though some more could have been added instead of late 18th century dress, speak and customs.

This was a wonderful book. if you are interested in the past and things of that sort i would certainly recommend this book. It is a great book to read if you just want to read a good book. it starts out good and is good all the way through. it sucks you into the story with the characters. it makes you feel as though you are right there with them.

Fever 1793 is about a young girl named Mattie who's mother gets ill from yellow fever. She and her grandpa get seperated when she falls ill after her mother leaves to go stay with some relatives. She and her grandfather are eventually reunited when he finds her in a hospital and they return to their home in their old town. Her grandfather gets killed while trying to protect her from burglars and young Mattie has nowhere to go. That is until she finds a maid who used to help in the coffee shop her family owned. Mattie helps the maid, Eliza with her young children until the fever epidemic is over and her other returns from the country.

Great book, very discriptive of how Mattie Cook's once stable life fell and crumbled becuase of an outbreak of yellow fever. She lived above her family coffee shop with her widowed mother and grandfather. She spent her days avoiding chores and making plans to turn the family biz into the best in Philidelphia. Then the fever struck.
As the disease wiped the streets, Mattie's world was turned upside down. When her mother becomes infected, Mattie flees the city with her only remaining family, her grandfather. As they search frantically for help, they discover that nearly every city is disease ridden and it seems there is no where else to turn. Mattie quickly learns how to survive on her own as she perserveers in her quest. VERY good, and exciting, i RECOMMEND STRONGLY!!
