"Find Out About Animal Tools" showcases animal ingenuity, beautifully brought to life by Martin Jenkins and Jane McGuinness. The book is filled with animals showcasing their unique tool-using behaviors, from otters cracking shells on their chests to bowerbirds making elaborate nests. The illustrations are realistic but also irresistibly cute, a feat that is somewhat difficult when discussing ants! I enjoyed the diversity of animals discussed in the book. There were animals and behaviors I had never heard of, despite all of the nature documentaries I have watched.
One of our favorite parts of the book was the classroom picture at the end, where my son especially enjoyed spotting all the different tools that kids use. It was a fun and clever way to tie the theme of tools back to something familiar and relatable.
While the book is packed with fascinating tidbits, I wish there had been a section at the end with more detailed information about the animals and their behaviors. Some of the animal tricks mentioned could really benefit from a bit more context to fully appreciate their impressiveness.
Despite that, our family thoroughly enjoyed this book, and we’re excited to find and read the rest of the books in the "Find Out About" series. If you’re looking for a book that’s both educational and fun, with gorgeous illustrations and a variety of cool animal facts, "Find Out About Animal Tools" is a fantastic pick.
