I fell in love with Air Awakens. The chemistry between the characters and the plot development had a perfect blend. So, when it came to start Fire Falling I was really eager. This book started out really strong for me. I was absorbed back in the world and this building tension between Vhalla and Aldrik. Most of the book was this way also. Even though the plot was very limited because the characters were traveling, it worked. The pace held and I never felt bored. Then the *major* event happened. Since I do non-spoiler reviews, I cannot expand but you'll know it when you reach it. This is where the book started to slide for me. It wasn't the event that altered my enjoyment of the novel but rather the character development.

Vhalla is an amazing main character. I enjoy reading her story because I connect to her so well with her thirst for knowledge. She is always trying to learn and push her limits. This book made me start to have conflicting thoughts about her. The beginning of the book she was the Vhalla I loved from the first book. Then after the event she changed. I get why it happened, but I didn't like it. This development just didn't fit the story. She wasn't Vhalla and then she was? While this event would have changed anybody, it was the way the story took. Honestly, I just wish I skipped this part of the book. It did nothing for me and only hindered my enjoyment of the book.

Overall though I really did enjoy it. Fire Falling would have soared above and beyond if it wasn't for the one section of the book that just didn't do it for me. Throughout the book, the pace and story were very cohesive and enjoyable. I did enjoy the character development and can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
